...Up on the Downs

Well I don't normally talk about TV programmes but I'm finding this Broken series quite compulsive viewing, such heart rending story lines and Sean Bean is doing an amazing job portraying the 'wounded healer' of a priest, doing his best in impossible situations. Fascinating stuff. Anyone else entranced by it?

It's gritty reality for sure.

Yes, and I so admire the way he is acting the role, hard to deal with those situations. Wasserface is always good too - Anna Friel.

I don't normally like her for some reason, but she played the part really well.

Thoroughly enjoying it, as OP says, very compelling and brilliant acting

"Sean Bean you say? Which channel is it on?"

It's on BBC1 I think, tomorrow night anyway. Not his usual type of role at all, but he is acting it brilliantly.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I haven't seen tonight's episode but the other two have been very hard hitting.

The scene with Anna Friel asking for an emergency payment on benefits to tide her over and the scene of the mentally ill young man being (censoring that to avoid spoilers) both had me in tears.

It's kind of uncomfortable viewing yet you still watch. I can't quite make my mind up if I would say I was enjoying it but I am watching it. Compulsive viewing.

It is that. And Sean Bean continues to give an award winning performance in my view, every twitch of his face is spot on.

"Last one on now! "

Amazing series, I've loved every minute. Was bound to be excellent as written by Jimmy McGovern, I heard him interviewed and he said that the stories in the series were all based on real stories he'd heard over the years. Tears here too!

6 is enough to tell the story, it worked out well and tied up all the strands of the different stories in the final episode so it did its job

I just loved seeing a portrayal of someone struggling with trying to do the right thing and succeeding for a change - Sean Beans portrayal of that struggle and the vulnerability was masterful!

Jimmy also made-boys from the blackstuff-back in the 80's.

Very similar stories...worth a look if you have never seen it.
