Mysterious packages

So for the last week I have been receiving parcels - 2 at a time.

I've not ordered anything though, one definitely came via ebay, so I presume the rest did too, but I don't have an ebay account.I can't find the buyer on there either. The rest of the parcels have no distributor or buyer on them.

Of course my first concern was someone has my card details, but so far I've not been robbed, no unrecognised transactions that I can see, and nothing suspicious that my bank has identified.

I'm just wondering does anyone have any advice of what to do?

Do I just bin these? Nobody has ordered them for me.

I'm just a bit concerned as whilst my card details have not been used, my name, house number, street address and postcode has.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

They are arriving in your name? Is there anyone else in the home who might have ordered you something? Have you got a birthday and people are sending you gifts?

Have you opened them?

What's in them? There must be a delivery note where you can call the company to a) find out and/or b) return them.

Yes they are arriving in my name, and no I checked, and nope.

Literally I received the following:

A sample piece of laminate flooring.

Furniture floor pads.

A nose ring.

A decoration of some kind.

Gift bags.

A hair net.

So, no high value items then? It sounds like a strange prank.

Google it. Could be a scam. Because you've not returned the items they could have your card details and after a certain period of time, "charge" you.

Other than the contained item, only one had a note in it.

These were the gift bags, there was a thank you for purchasing note, with the name of the accounts of the buyer and seller form ebay. The payment method (paypal - of which I don't have an account) The payment date, and then my name and address.

Prolly a bit late to check now

Gets me wondering.... if, in the furture, will we be able to test farts for DNA??? (or the fart equivalent). ahhh, the joys of little sleep over the past 36 hours....

When we were at school some girls found it hugely amusing to get things like condoms etc sent to another girl. If I were you I would just throw the things away or put them back in the post as unsolicited goods. Its a prank.

I've checked with all my local friends and they thought I was pulling their legs, I checked with my none local friends and they told me they don't even know my address and postcode.

So I doubt it's a prank, I told them if it was they could tell me and I'd be fine with it, but if it goes on longer it'll just cause stress.

A few of my school mates used to just stick a stamp and address on anything and post it to each other to see if it would arrive. Pieces of toast, boxer shorts, you name it.

Did they? They should, as I don't think there is a formal requirement for a paper/plastic envelope.

Inform both eBay and PayPal of these occurrences. They can investigate.

This happened to me kept receiving really random things no change on my accounts until 5 months later my bank account was drained! I got my money back eventually but the whole process took nearly 2 months to sort out so I'd advise you to contact your bank and ask them to contact you if any transactions happen that aren't like your usual!

Informed paypal but they cannot do anything as I don't have an account. Just waiting to get in touch with ebay.

This is identity fraud - report it to the police and tell your bank - you need help now. It's quite a well known way of starting the whole process of identity fraud - it's been well documented in the press. I'd urge you to contact your bank and get advice - fast. Good luck.

Yep, explained to my bank what all this is. A friend advised me to get in touch with the non-emergency police.

Sometimes criminals get a hold of a list of credit card numbers and want to figure out which ones work and which ones have been cancelled.

They'll run a bunch of random online orders to see what works, and if the card goes through, will use it for other purchases.

They don't want to ship random orders to their real address and provide a paper trail, so they'll ship to random people.

Check with your bank to see if payments have gone through for them, if so cancel your card and get a new one

A 3rd party has discovered his name and address. They have already set up accounts to purchase on eBay using PayPal. It's easy for the 3rd party to open a bank account or apply for a credit card using those details and nothing will be known about it until the bills start arriving. It's a well established technique sadly

So no transactions have happened and effected my account and none are pending (bar those I know of eg, groceries). So the money spent to order these goods has either come out of a different account - or is waiting to come out of mine?

Or they are building up a new credit history in your name where the debts they leave will be seen as yours and not theirs.

Yeah a friend told me that a few mins ago.

The non-emergency police were not much help, because I have lost no money so far they cannot treat it as identity theft or fraud. So I have to hope ebay (who wont be getting back to me whatever happens) find the user who has used my details to whatever extent and persecute them, before someone actually takes my money - then I can report it as fraud.

Yes fo this. They will be able to see where your address has been used. Phone them but check phone costs first.
