do you have to have the same opinion with people to let them into your circle of friends or do you have peeps you fully disagree with their opinions yet class them as a good friend?

i personally have a wide circle of friends and many of which have vastly differing views on many things to me yet i still class them as good friends

in fact i am married to someone whos opinions more often than not differ from mine and we often argue over things yet i love the bones of him and couldn't imagine my life without him in it

my point in all this is (yes i do have one ) when things get heated on here i often see comments like

well it shows me who to avoid

and

opened my eyes to a few people on here

both fully made up not quoted before i get in trouble

my point being do people honestly remove people from their circle of friends just because they have a differing opinion?

is the world really that intolerant of others?

this is a genuine question and not a dig at anyone at all

there have been peeps on here that have honestly left me exhasperated with their opinions in the past but yet i would still give them the time of day as if i didn't i could be missing out on a genuinely good person being in my life

I have many friends with wide and diverse opinions that are definitely different to mine but that does not stop me being friends with them. I love diversity in my life. if we were all the same what a boring life it would be.

Life would boring if we just Hung around with people who thought the same as us. I like a bit if banter and argument. Melody the brain alive

I certainly wouldn't block people just because they have a difference of opinion to me as I low some have done

in the 'real world' i have a diverse range of friends with different outlooks on various subject matters.. the past few days have proved this and we have shown our differences. They aren't from military backgrounds and can't relate to my frustrations and loyalty to a friend of my dads who sadly was killed in Afghan this week and all the press are banging on about is a smackhead.. end of the day we will still be mates. Difference of opinion is healthy. How boring would the world be if everyone agreed with everyone else.

happy to hear many different point of views and have lots of friends like you with wide ranging points of view, the conversations would be short if everyone was just agreeing with each other. But one thing that's hard to tolerate in others is intolerance. People who have a white and black view of the world are usually the hardest to get along with

I have yet to remove someone from my friends list just for having a difference of opinion, for example, I have a friend who wanted a mmf with me, I declined because I prefer my own age group, whereas he doesn't mind and thinks there is nothing wrong with it. I am sure I have a few more on the list that I have a difference of opinion with but I am not going to remove them for that. It's what makes the world go round and nothing wrong with a good debate

I dont have many GOOD friends but have many aquaintences .

My good friends are all different, some wacky, some serious, some middle of the road.

Would hate it if they were all the same.

I dont change and those that know me and are friends, know they have a friend for life, with all my faults and theirs. .exceptence in all ways

I thouhght the whole point of being a friend was to accept that person for who they are?

Of course opinions will differ but if we only made friends with people who had our views all the time would we have any friends at all!

I have people on my friends list as well as people I've met whereby we've had a difference of opinion. It is never personal. I tend to focus on the written word and will respond to that, with just a passing glance at whose posted it.

To me the forums are not about agreeing with those we'd like to meet, but offering a viewpoint on the topic itself

Real friends? no. we know each other in real life and a difference of opinion won't change a friendship.

On the forums I don't know the people for real, so I only have what they write to form an opinion on. If there is something they write that I don't like, it makes no difference, as I am not likely to meet them anyway....but some comments can make you think differently about a poster.

i have to agree with rugby...

This week i went out to dinner with a group of friends,we ranged from 2 70 yr old retired south africans who advocate the death penalty to a former drug dealer, the dinner was arranged by my Pastor and we had a great night.

Unlike the forums on any site, no one set out to provoke, hurt or offend, we know each other and respect each other.

Yes there are people here i wud never meet, i assume tho that is no great loss to them, they are looking to be provocative, not get meets from this part of the site.

That said there are people like the OP whose postings make me think...oh yes!

"my point being do people honestly remove people from their circle of friends just because they have a differing opinion?"

Absolutely.

I have recently experienced this. No matter how much I rack my brains trying to work out what I've said or done all I can think of is that it's because I had genuine worry and concern over somebody they were meeting.

It won't happen again.

Think no matter who our friends are we have to say ture to ourselfs and say things how we feel them ....... not just what people wish to here to fit in .
