i've been getting my head around being able to play obscure musical time signatures ... especially really technical stuff where the time signature changes from measure to measure ... now i know i probably know i sound like i'm talking in code to most folks but is anyone else a fan of listening to or playing math rock?

I'm a Tool fan so I get what you're on about. Weird rhythms and time signatures really do it for me.

I'm trying to do similar stuff with the bass at the moment but I'm going jazz!

Check out some Snarky Puppy if you can handle it. Lots of poly-rhythms. They've really improved my playing...

they're nice bits .... the jazz thing is pretty strong with both those tracks, but in different genres. tool have some good timings going on. there's the clever mainstream stuff like radiohead, dave brubeck and even floyd's money.

i think the bridge part of the beatles here comes the sun got me thinking more about it when i tried to figure out the structure of the tune ... took me ages to suss out that it was 11/8, 4/4, 7/8

sikth, excellent as they are, have odd signatures but not complex enough to be math rock really

OP. Have you tried Dillinger Escape Plan? Or perhaps The Locust?

I am more of a deathgrind girl but I wouldn't mind a bit of mathcore. Screamo style vocals and crazy guitar techniques might not be for everyone but Psyopus is my favourite band.

is pretty tricky mind ... especially seeing as how it's by a bunch of rappers who don't usually play instruments
