We continue

I will admit I have a bit of a running shoe addiction.

What are we all rocking?

Brooks Transcend 2

Adidas Adizero XT for trails

Skechers GoRun Forza 2 - my newest pair

I've retired my Hoka One One Bondi 4 after buying the Skechers

I ended up with orthotics to correct overpronation.

Brooks Beast are so stable that I didn't need them. Now I've sorted out my posture I don't need stability shoes but my Brooks Transcend are very comfortable.

Took the Skechers up my favourite hill today. Nice 14 mile trip and I'm still really happy with them.

Good resurrecting, I missed this first time round. Hello all

For the last few years I've been faithful to my various pairs of Newton Gravity. They used to be pretty lightweight, though as I've replaced them and moved to the updated models they seem to be getting chunkier. Always found the best way to avoid strains and injuries, though, is not to change anything unless you're forced to...

Doing the Bristol half in sept. Happy with my 5k times but struggling to work up the energy to start putting in the distance

This happened to me too

Both times I've run a marathon I've stopped running for months afterwards, and never really got back into it in the same way. Such a relief to have a rest afterwards...

But! You can totally do a 10k with a few weeks' training

I'm not a great runner but I've used puma dual ignite for my training. Used to get really sore legs and shin splints and my plantar fasxiitis played up all the time. I don't get any of that with these. I really like them and they're down from 70 to 20 in DW sports just to get rid of them. I'm gonna buy about 4 new pairs to stock up. Distance wise I'm up to 10 miles at 9.20 pace and training for the gnr. I'm running for crohns and colitis if anyone is interested in helping me to my 500 target.

With the right training it can be done. It is a step up - mentally more than physically.

I did Lancaster a few weeks ago and only got as far as 14 miles in training. It was tough in places but I got through it.

I'd advise don't look at / focus on the time! try to enjoy it, get some satisfaction from completing it and take it from there. The improvement in tones and things will come after the baseline. I take a zen approach

"I'll start off by saying running is not something im good at, well thats an understatement to say the least. It'll be more of a fast walk/jog intivals initially.

But any advice as to what would be a good target for a 5km for a complete unfit beginner?

I'd advise don't look at / focus on the time! try to enjoy it, get some satisfaction from completing it and take it from there. The improvement in tones and things will come after the baseline. I take a zen approach

Thankyou. I feel at the minute i need something to work towards. A target something visual. As my motivation isnt always great "

Take park run for example, Which is a 5km benchmark :

5km = 3 miles give or take, and an average walking pace is 3 miles an hour, so you could expect to complete a park run in under an hour.

Improvers will run between 30 and 40 minutes;

A good time is about 25 minutes;

And a quick time is sub 20 minutes

You can take all of that with a pinch of salt, of course

Thankyou. Aiming fot improver times would be a good starting target then and working up slowly from there.

Hopefully at some point itll become more natural and ill get into my stride.

Didn’t want to hijack the C25K thread so I’ll use this to map and monitor my progress.

Started again tonight before I run my first ever ‘race’ later this year. Felt good to be back on the road after a Xmas period packed with some disastrous park runs

Not long back from a night trail run with my group

9.5km up hill and down dale, through woodlands and across muddy fields, great times

Almost at the end of week 1 of my new routine and I’m in bits. Missed yesterday so did a double session (gym session and road run) today. 5km tomorrow and then a rest day Sunday

So I may have entered the Marathon du Medoc. Running red wine and cheese - what could possibly go wrong!

As others have said you have the people doing brilliantly at the C25K thing

And then you have other nutters here
