You can't help but admire the guy but he was a prick sometimes. He called Joe Frazier an "Uncle Tom". No need for that. Frazier was great. He preached hate towards whites. And he was a draft dodger. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Over his lifetime the man said some bad things and said some good things , he wasn't afraid to challenge the unfairness of social conventions that blighted that era and didn't back away from those issue attempting to protect his status or popularity .....

His legacy as a man ultimately added value to the human race..... his legacy as sportsman is unique

I saw Michael Parkinson do a live talk on him this week.

Parky clearly found him fascinating - genius sportsman, massive character, but also deeply flawed and capable of being a horrible guy.

That last interview they did in 1981 is a difficult watch. Unbelievable to think he boxed after that.
