Hayfever sufferers

So I've been suffering terribly today with hayfever.

No sympthay needed ...i am soldiering on just about ...

What I would like to know is if there are any other fellow forumites who are also suffering this time of year and what do you take for it

I've suffered with varying degrees of severity since I was a kid. I'm a rare sort where over the counter stuff does nothing to alleviate symptoms so I end up bunkering indoors to stay away from the source of the problem as much as possible.

At the moment, it's streaming eyes. Which is a pain in the arse when my eyes are 'glued' shut in a morning.

I take the prevalin nasal spray which is really good

Or just wilkinsons own brand tablets x

Beconase is good.I usually use that or piriton

I swap and change the tablets I take as they don't always work and become immune to them

Could do with a nasal spray when it gets worse

I tried a very hot shower earlier

Came out sneezing my head off lol

I will no doubt (fingers crossed) be ok tomorrow

I suffer all year round with it. I take hayfever tablets, eye drops, ear spray, 2 and sometimes 3 different nose sprays. I put vasaline up my nose, around my eyes. I eat honey.

Cetirizine dihydrocloride and beclometasone disproportionate nasal spray. Sometimes I take more or less. And they are both generic versions of popular brands, so sit cheap

piriton works for me if i suffer which i dont always - must be certain pollens - also rub vaselinethinly under your nose and eyes - pollen sticks to it

Get in a car with aircon, recirculating air on and enjoy- the pollen filter should get rid of it as long as you keep the car sealed

And Vaseline I've been searching all over the house for ..as I always have it in .....can not find it anywhere

You can buy them via the internet easily and they are a hell of a lot cheaper than the branded stuff.

Yes Jo - I do, it's not been so bad for me this year so far. I take one of the one a day pills (my friend brings me some Portuguese stuff that's ace and i use that Haymax stuff under my nose when it gets bad - it seems to work.

I've had it all my life. I use antihistamines and a nasal spray plus take local honey which helps.

I get it on prescription though.

Once you come in from being outside take off your clothes/ top off..wash your face....

Don't hang your washing out on the line...even bedding , worst culprit to store pollen.

Lots have said honey...this works truly by taking it before the Hayfever season starts.

I have been told that natural honey works ideally local to where you live.

It's supposed to build a resistance to the pollen.

Yes I've seen those ....i was prescribed zirtec a while ago but made me breathless so they took them off me and used beconase (I think that was a nasal spray) but it gave me the odd nose bleed...that was a year or so ago

Different things I can be trying in the mean time anyway

Apologies if I'm repeating anyone...

I'm a pharmacy technician, so I do this stuff for a living. Anyone can experience allergies at any time of their lives. I grew up on a farm, and got hayfever when I moved to Glasgow.

Take antihistamines ASAP. Preferably loratadine as it won't make you drowsy.

There is absolutely no point in taking more than one in a day as it won't make a difference.

Eye drops and nasal sprays are really good too.

Feel free to pm me for advice.

I swear by Luffa spray. It's not only helped with my hay fever but reduced it over the years. Reflexology may have also helped with that. I've also heard local honey helps. I'm also helped by living next to the sea and working in an air conditioned space

I do suffer but I can't take anything. I find tablets make me feel really drowsy driving home and I don't feel safe so I go without.

After spending all day fishing my eyes are paying for it now, despite me taking my daily antihistamine.

I have sodium chromoglicate drops prescribed and they do help a little. Will use some artificial tears drops too.

It's a small price to pay for a fab day out

Down side is that hay fever itch isn't good for contact lenses and I'm nominated victim at work for our pre reg optometrist for his contact lens assessments. I'm sure he'll cope with the extra challenge

Yep me too and had to go garden centre with my mum. I take beaconase nasel spray,and sniff fine droplets of water when the spray wheres off as you can't use it too often. I remember doing 6 O levels in a hot steamin June years ago and it was torture.

Try loratadine. Or acrivistine. They shouldn't make you drowsy.

If you're really suffering you'll need to take antihistamine stuff. But take this at the same time and take it throughout the entire hay fever season when you feel a little symptomatic. Over the time it'll build up your immunity. Then next year start using it the minute you start feeling hay feverish and continue using it throughout. If you're anything like me you'll find you're reaching for the strong stuff less and less. These days I get up, have sniffles and watery eyes, take the luffa, then I'm good for the day

It's this time a shower has 2 simultaneous uses:

1. Good to cool down

2. You can blow all your hayfever induced snot out on the shower door.

I've just taken my 15 year old to the pharmacy because i think he has it.

He's been sneezing loads, I thought it was a cold but it hasn't gone. One of his eyes is really swollen and red, 2 days ago it was the other one (I presumed he'd got something in it as he'd been playing football on astro turf).

The guy gave us some Loratadine, and said to take him to our gp if it doesn't improve in 2-3 days. Or phone 111 if it gets really bad

Is there anything we can do to stop the itching when he's asleep?
