Did anybody see this on BBC3 the other night ?

If so, what did you make of it ?

Personally, I thought it was yet another piece of 'reality' TV that served little purpose other than being pure 'freak show' broadcasting.

It didn't shock me, it didn't make me aware of anything and it didn't educate in any way.

If anything, I think it oversimplified the situation and made everything look rosey in the kitchen.

'Oh yes, there will be tears, but it all works out in the end' kind of approach.

How everybody (with the exception of his dad) came together and supported him and the breaks he was offered etc just seemed a bit too convenient.

Without being fully aware of the TV/TS scene, I would suggest that this 1 case has been far from the 'reality' for many people in his position.

I agree with you, and also it's funny that he was a really good looking kid don't you think. Be a bit different story if he hadn't have been so attractive in the first place. Don't think it would have been the same outcome had he been short and fat and did you notice how his mum had her eyebrows done in the same fashion. Sorry, saucer of milk for Lynne!!!

He was a beautiful looking lad.

Pretty boys aren't my 'thing' but he classically very attractive.

i wish the lad nothing but success and if nothing else, the programme was a platform for him

beyond that though, i am questioning exactly what 'message' the programme was putting out

perhaps it was just showing that its ok to be yourself and not everyone will be negative towards someone because they are different.

not everyone will, but some will and i just think that the producer / director had rose tinted specs on when they made this programme

if ya didn't see it sassy, it is on iplayer so after c-beebies has shut down for the day, give it a watch and see what ya think

it is watchable, i just don't think it says much and what is does say is a little romanticised

children and adults can be cruel at times when we are faced with something that isn't classed as normal. Through programs like this it gives us as individuals the chance to form opinions of the situation in private behind closed doors before being exposed to it

take Katie Piper or other burns victims, if id not seen anything like that before through the means of the media (tv or magazines) and suddenly i was confronted by a severely scalded person id be shocked and not quite sure how to react. But because of TV etc im aware of why the facial/body disfigurements

It wasn't even that.

I can't say i know anything more about being a TV / Drag Queen having watched it than I did before I watched it

Tho funnily enuff the kids seemed ok with it, it was the parents and teachers that had the issue !

I had to take my hat of to the kid for going to the Prom.....

Doing the Drag show is nothing...how many drag queens are there out there.....

But to actually turn up at the school prom after specifically being told it was disgusting took a stainless steel pair of BALLS.....

A kid in my neighbourhood would have been crucified, and got himself a nice shiny new facial scar for that at the very least.

The boy has guts, a bit misguided but guts.......

His old man should have went to the show given the kid encouragement instead of being a fuckin neanderthal.

It was good to see that the kids had no problems with it I was shocked to see that the teachers and some parents were against it, Its a shame people cant live and let live.

I saw this programme and I agree that it was very romanticised and idealistic and all very lovely and a happy ever after.

I bet not every kid in that school was ok with it. Jamie was very effeminate and no doubt had been bullied throughout his school years, we saw nothing of that. And I bet a lot of people were furious that he went to the prom in a dress, easy to have balls of steel when you have a camera crew filming behind you.

I don't have prejudice against the trans community and my good friend will undergo gender reassignment next year. She has had years of suffering from bullying and having to deal with her own gender problems. I would imagine its not an easy life for many
