Now we all know Reading is popular with people on here. But where are all the people further down the line? Early, Winersh, Wokingham, Crowthorne, etc

When I’ve finished with Reading, there’s Wokingham, Aldershot, Bracknell. Didcot, Yateley.

You know.

Winnersh.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Wokingham is a nice place but The Station Tap pub, just outside the train station, is a right bloody dive and furthermore, stinks of piss.

The train station itself though, is great and has even won awards and one of the train announcers sometimes reads poetry and stories over the tannoy

The parking fees have gone up sharply in the town centre recently

On a happier note though, California Country Park is rather nice to walk around there albeit not as majestic as Winnersh’s, Dinton Pastures where I had sex once. It was very nice

I had a run down the Greenway and through the boardwalk section of California Country Park woods first thing this morning, you know the bit with the mineral rich watercourse through Longmoor Bog, on a positive note all the pensioners and dog walkers I passed on my way responded with a hello so not all people out this way ignore a cheery “good morning”

I’ve done Dinton Pastures Parkrun a fair few times, nice circuit around the lakes

Oh yes indeed - with the wooden walkways across it It’s a lovely little walk (albeit a bit smelly thanks to the bog).

I really love the gates by it also; The rustic wooden weights keeping them from remaining open. It’s really idyllic

It's a bit more expensive than Basingstoke but much more going on. There are some nice places near the hospital that are very affordable - my daughter just bought a place around there and loves it. Such a friendly neighbourhood.

The Shinfield Studios? How will it work? The ones in Winnersh are a ghost town most of the time, no permanent work for locals. When they film everyone arrives en masse from all over, then all leave when they are done.

Yeah I ain’t in the loop of how it will work but I am aware of a new Star Wars movie being partly filmed there.

I have seen a lot of jobs advertised there lately but not sure of longevity of it.

I know there are huge studios and streaming services already contracted to them.

Massive new state of the art Disney studios and I think Netflix are involved too. Huge investment so I can’t see them sitting idle!

With Winnersh and Arborfield studios (where the filmed the Witcher and Will Smiths Alladin) it’s fast becoming a little Hollywood.

Andor filmed not far away in Little Marlow too!

Talking of the locality; just outside (or very near at least) of Arborfield there’s a quaint and rather lovely little village complete with an old church and a rustic pub just opposite it.

How about Henry Street Garden centre? It’s really nice in there.

Their Christmas displays are particularly impressive

Hmmm…maybe they won’t approve of an orgy in their very neatly displayed garden furniture section though….

Who’s hosting? I can bring the Hobnobs "

I prefer dark chocolate digestives!

Jeez have you tried to arrange a threesome let alone an orgy.. no way diaries will align. If you get them synced up I’m in

When you are in the supermarket do you look to see

A. who has a pineapple?

B. Whether it is upside down or not?

This can be quite interesting, all be it an upside down pineapple is quite rare.

On the rare occasion I do see one, I will stop and ask is your pineapple for a pineapple upside down cake?

Now its Autumn thoughts start to turn to the annual Wokingham firework display.

The best bit is not the actual fireworks themselves but the torchlit parade from the Town Centre to the Cantley Field, hundreds carrying flaming torches down the route, it’s quite a sight!

All it needs is a few pitchforks and some angry locals and you really could be in a medieval witch trial!

I have lived in Reading all my life. Grew up in Whitley est. In fact where my house is. I can walk to where I grew up in less than ten minutes. Perhaps as grew up there. Did not find it as rough as people say ?. In fact other areas of Reading had worse reputations ?

Nothing going on!? It’s only the goddam biggest night of the year for fans of seventeenth century Parliamentary and Monarchy insurrections!

The annual torchlit parade from the town centre down to the Cantley Field starts at 6.15pm and the grand fireworks display starts at 7.30pm *

(* assuming it’s still on after the adverse weather. Has anyone checked? )

"Good to see this thread still going

My shout out today for the general locality is Bob’s Fish & Chips in Finchampstead.

I love that place

I nearly went there yesterday!!! But I tried the Chinese opposite. Expensive but very nice. I’ll try Bob’s next!"

I like the cake in FBC
