My lightly modified Land Rover discovery suits me perfectly. Use it for camping, mountain biking, greenlaning. It's comfy and relaxing to drive and once I get it re-mapped it'll give hot hatches a scare too.

It was the classic orange colour. I prefer white with red Mexico stripes. Don't half miss it though. I was too young to insure it when he sold it or I'd have had it. Wish he'd left it as a 1.3 Ghia on the log book.

i don't spend much time thinking about cars to know what's about, in fact i'm happier when i don't have a car, makes life much simpler but i need one atm as the mrs is on crutches...so probably something smaller and cheaper to run than the current thing really

i like simple machines too with no tech or bullshit...a mini would be nice, not the bmw copies that you see now though, a real one

Quite happy with my VW Golf mk5 TDI 4motion

I'd like the mk6 or newer mk7 but they don't do 4wd diesel anymore and the newer build quality is crap, although most newer cars, all makes, are not built better anymore

Am master at VW retrofitting with vcds and coding so my mk5 has lots of upgrades.

Inside is virtually 2016 scirocco spec with 3D colour clocks, mib2 discover media / satnav, Bluetooth, wifi, heated leather seats, climatronic A/C, turn assist fog lights, rain sense auto close windows / sunroof, tinted windows, mapped to 180bhp

Like to look at engine next and fit hybrid turbo

In 1990 i had the first black electric soft top escort cabriolet in Leicester i had it deliverd 1st january and had no problem pulling in it, sadly the thieves had no problem pulling it neither and it had its hood ripped open 3 times, sadly after 8 months it had to go........someone has still got it though according to dvla its been sorned so its still out there.

depends what you mean by practical. A figaro is essentially a rebodied micra so they are incredibly reliable and reasonably fuel efficient.

Bet there's a company out there that would do a resto mod on one. Modern Elise engine and gearbox. Better suspension and brakes etc. Closest thing to the elan these days is a Mazda mx5.

I have several in my collection.

Bmw's, Mercedes Benz', Cadillac, Peugeot 205 GTi, but my fave and daily driver (so long as it's over 15 degrees & not raining) is my 1944 Willy's Jeep.

Like me it's old, somewhat delapidated, rusty in places and jiggly over bumps.

But it's easy to get into, never lets you down, always satisfying and gets where water can't.

Just don't even think of motorways with it's 45 mph top speed.....

There is a bloke on a well known car forum (PH) who built a mk2 Ford Focus estate with a tuned Focus ST engine, gear box, suspension and brakes on it. It's got 19 inch steel wheels with only 3 wheel trims and from the outside it just looks like a basic blue estate. He rarely washes it too. Even has a national trust sticker in the back window.

I think it's all legit. All details moved onto log book etc. I'm a bit geeky about cars so I love stuff like that. Should have been an engineer.

Various choices by people on this thread, the majority seem to be choosing older cars, which is interesting considering you could choose ferrari etc. Older cars are alot nicer looking than modern cars though.

I had a 1977 W116 280SE, picked it up off an old french guy for €4800, metallic blue, tan leather interior, original Becker stereo. It had a few little spots of rust in the usual spots, but not serious. In great condition. Drove it every day for 3 years, never an once of trouble. I sold it for nearly double that last year on the pretext of buying a W114. Which I still haven't got yet.

We stuck with MB right up through W124's (had a rare 300TE 24v Mosselman turbo for a while, which was a hoot) then two W210's both of which where a let down quality wise so we switched to BMW & now to Volvo but only the MK1 C70 which we think is one of the best looking of the four seater convertibles with the roof down.

At the moment I have a black VW T5 shuttle with blacked out windows and auto, which I love and tears down the motorway .

As for a car an XJ Jag or another mk2 granada which I love as it was my fist car. Shame my dopey brother killed it.
