How many countries have you visited?

On how many continents?

How many have you lived in?

How many languages to you speak?

Just got into (yet another) discussion with someone here about the differences, and am curious? There seem to be many assumptions that Americans are not well travelled and are, therefore, ignorant hicks. I'd say I'm not, but working on it (the travel part)!

I'm American.

Travelled to: 9

Continents: 4

Lived in: 4

Languages: 2 poorly but enough to get around, 2 fluently.

We've travelled a lot through Europe and to Asia a couple of times and the USA.

I find people who slate Americans for this a bit troubling. I'm sure there are loads of introspective Americans.

But, critically the USA is a vast place. An american can go to the mountains, hot beaches, vast wilderness, skiing, surfing etc etc etc without taking a long haul flight.

Many brits experience of overseas is trips to Spain, which is great and fine. An American would go to Florida or Southern California. The only difference is the American didnt leave the country.

Thanks for that! I've visited around 20 states and lived in 3, so, given that the US is 2.5 times the size of Europe....maybe I could up my numbers a bit???

Well Cailfornia is twice the size of the UK so you could tweak them up a bit
