Sounds like a scam, I'd have thought they'd take the item back first and confirm it's beyond repair before doing a refund.

"Sounds like a scam, I'd have thought they'd take the item back first and confirm it's beyond repair before doing a refund."

Generally, we ask for devices to be returned to our offices in the United States. As you are outside of the United States, we will instead require a proof of destruction. We kindly ask that you do the following:

-Cut the tracker's band at both sides

-Cut the charging cable

-Write your case number on a note

-In a photo, include the destroyed band, cable, and case number note

-Respond to this email with the proof of destruction

At this time, we can provide our international customers refunds via a wire transfer. Please provide us with the following information:

- Your Name on Account:

- Your Address:

- Amount paid for Fitbit device:

- Your Bank Name:

- Bank City and State:

- Bank Country:

- International Bank Account Number (IBAN):

- Account number:

- ABA or SWIFT code:

- Sort code:

Unless you paid with a cheque don't they already have your payment details from when you purchased the device?

Didnt actually buy it from Fitbit... i bought it through 'Very'

I just explained what happened with the device and they then sent an email stating the above

Nowhere in there do they ask for proof of purchase though?

I don't know what a 'Very' is but an iban costs anywhere between £20 and £40 s I can't understand why they wouldn't just return the payment via the card you used to purchase it with, or like above a cheque.

You bought it from Very, so your contract is with them, they should repair/replace and then sort out the rest with whoever made it.

Look up the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and quote it to them (Very).

They are trying it on, hoping you will just go away, once they know you know your rights, they (hopefully) will play ball. x

"so hoax then? x "

Certainly doesn't appear genuine from the evidence. I'd be very wary of sending all that detail out when online retailers can refund electronically.

fitbit-support@fitbit.com

They certainly don't need to know anything other than sort code and account number (and/or international bank account number). Sounds dodgy to me.

Ok.

So, contact Very.

If they give you any crap, then do as I posted.

Hope you get it sorted. x

It's an odd one but the only thing anyone can do with your sort code, account number or Iban No. is to put money into your account.

Nobody can take money out of your account with those.

So if this is a scam, they're not very good scammers

True but they can clone a card with all the correct details then apply for more cards loans etc.. Be careful who you send your details too. If you bought it from a UK shop only deal with UK suppliers because then your protected by UK law

They can't clone your bank card with your sort code and account number. They'd need the 16 digit number of your card for that.., which you shouldn't give out to any source you don't trust.

Try tweeting them on twitter to say it's broken. If you tweet their official page they'll dm you and resolve the issue. Twitter is my go to when I have product issues

"Sounds like a scam, "

No sending those details like IBAN/BIC etc is pretty standard when dealing with America (assuming it is america).

I deal with America a lot, and it's pretty standard, you'll probably have to digitally sign a document aswell, pretty normal for over there.

I would be totally comfortable doing it if it was America because I know how they roll over there, not so sure anywhere else, like China..etc..etc..

Well, at least nobody's uncle died and nobody inherited a huge gold bar or sum of money that required an overseas account.
