Riddle me this...

A black dog stands in the middle of an street in a town painted black. None of the street lights are working due to a power failure caused by a storm. A car with two broken headlights drives towards the dog but turns in time to avoid hitting him. How could the driver have seen the dog in time?

He was driving a milk float and therefore stopping distances are shorter and rections don't need to be as quick.... in fact the dog just jumped on his lap as he went past

The storm that caused the power failure also caused a flash of lightning, so the driver saw the dog.

..or the guy was driving a convertible and shouted, "OI! Fido, move ya stoooopid ass will ya!"... and the dog turned and said (before scampering off), "Go fuck yaself, ya moron!". So the man says in reply, "Okay then pooch!" ... and heads straight for the mutt. Just then a milk float that had been missing since 1974 veered around the corner scaring the fuck out of both the dog and the man causing the car to swerve, thus missing the dog.

I knew there was a simple explanation.
