I was going to reply - sounds ok to me. then read the comments and realised they want YOU to pay?? (I originally read it as 'can I (they) pay for the room).

If they want you to pay then I'd direct them to the nearest short pier !!

i wouldn't do it. some guys have paid for hotel rooms and the couple did not show up.

think it's rude they approached you with the intent on you paying for a room, if they are genuine.

I wouldn't book and pay for a hotel and just hope they are going to turn up. Why not suggest meeting for a social in the hotel bar first? If everyone is happy you can go online on your phone, book and pay for the room, check in and have fun.
