I suggest a return to these values

I am of course saying that 'tongue in cheek' but if these values still stood these forums would be a much quieter place

Another extract from Bill Brysons Made in America :

"If by some miracle a woman managed to acquire a little learning, she was not expected to share it with the world.

When in 1828 Fannie Wright gave a series of public lectures, the nation's press was at first shocked and then outraged.

A newspaper in Louisville accused her of committing "an act against nature".

The New York Free Enquirer declared that she had "with ruthless violence broken loose from the restraints of decorum".

The New York American decided that she had "ceased to be a woman" by her actions.

No one objected to the content of the lectures, you understand, merely that it was issuing from the mouth of a female."

"Another 'men -v- women let's trade insults thinly disuised as anecdotal musings' thread. Yawn."

that wasn't the intention at all wishy

it was more a comment on how much things have changed (for the good) in the last 200 hundred years.

what people choose to make it is up to the 'posters' but that was not my intention

Things have changed, sure, but sadly they haven't changed enough. I guess I'm a little sensitive to things that seem to show men as some sort of mesoginistic embecile (specifically the advert on TV where the woman launches the bloke out of the window via an ejector seat, boils my piss does that).

If a company created an ad that portrayed women like that it would never make it past the censors.

Yeah, I agree, Wishy! Remember the outcry because men were making adverts (Hamlet Cigars) where women in bikinis were seen walking along the beach? Or streotyping women into the role of sex object?

If that was wrong, why is it OK for women to now ridicule men in the same way? There are loads of adverts like the man out of the window or the Coke break advert where the women ogle the guy with his shirt off! And quite a few where men are portrayed as neanderthals!

I don't let it bother me as an idea for an advert, but we should be able to be even handed and portray women in the same way!

There are adverts that do the same to women,I remember one not so long ago with the guy laying on the sofa dishing out orders while his girlfriend was washing his car or something similar

I don't take it offensively some are really funny whether they're taking the piss out of men or women

You see I see the PMT ejecting man out the window advert a different way....I see it as aww poor men, they can't do anything right when we women have PMT.

Far too many men still think this way about women. Nearly 200 years later! Maybe we should be complaining about how long it takes men to work out things have changed.

What's the difference between a man and an insurance policy?

The policy will mature and make some money.

If women are so good at multitasking what's the problem with reversing *and* parking at the same time?

Why are men so good at reverse parking?

Because only a man can see five inches and believe it's nine.

What's the difference between a woman and a toilet?

A toilet doesn't follow you around for three days after you use it.

I find men comfortable in their skins and women comfortable in theirs can laugh at ads and jokes etc without it making them feel inferior. Too many people get indignant on behalf of those on ther receiving end of the joke when the truth is a joke exists for every single trait/situation/belief going and not many bypass the humour/irony to feel put out.

There are no no subjects for jokes but I bet these still raise a smile from those crying PC in the comfort of their own head.

Banter is to be taken and received in the spirit it is taken but I hate when someone is mean to you and you object and they say 'I was only joking' no they weren't mostof us can tell a jibe from a joke
