"just read that balloons filled with gas popped people thinking bombs, then stampede "

Balloons filled with gas don't blow up and kill people.

Casualties confirmed, fatalities confirmed. Give it an hour or so, it'll definitely come out as a terror bombing attack.

We're talking instant reports of fatalities. Plus eyewitness reports of the incident on The Graun mention a lot of blood being visible. That doesn't happen at stampedes. People are more likely to die in a stampede from broken bones and suffocation. Example being Hillsborough.

"Jade Baynes, 18, from Hull, was told to run from the area by armed police after leaving the concert arena. She said she heard loud bangs and what sounded like gunshots just after the entertainment had finished.

There were just a loud bang and a flash and everyone tried to scramble out. An alarm came on telling everyone to stay calm but leave as quickly as possible.

Jade and her friend Jasmine Mia, 21, also from Hull, said there appeared to be some sort of commotion in the first tier of the arena, with a number of stewards stood around the seats.

Armed police have now swamped the streets around the arena and police are moving members of the public away from the area."

I was at the gig with my kids tonight. We made our way up the stairs as soon as she finished her last song right on 10:30pm. They went to the toilet and as I was waiting on them everyone started running and screaming. I didn't hear the explosion or at least I didn't notice it but the foyer began to fill with smoke.

We got out relatively quickly but there was already signs of blood at the top of the steps at the entrance/exit and some injured people outside.

Scary stuff and my thoughts are with the dead/injured and their families. Thankfully we are safe.

Just heard, apparently up to 20 presumed dead , some speculating a nail bomb. At first assumed given the explosion didn't occur until the main act left the stage and the concert had effectively ended it was faulty pyrotechnics and deaths through people fleeing in panic and causing a crush, now it sounds like horrific calculated foul play.

Fucking awful. My best and most sincere wishes to mancunians dealing with the prospect their city harbours such sordid repulsive and inhuman malevolence who would perpetrate such an thing and those caught up in it. .

No, I'm sorry there's no equivalence. The last time someone purporting to be a Christian setting off nail bombs at concerts predominantly compromising of young children or launching an indiscriminate gun attack in a crowded city centre or ploughing into pedestrians in a lorry cab?

I'm all for tolerance and giving others the benefit of the doubt but at this stage a clear pattern has emerged, the common denominator in each case is Islam.

The theology and accompanying culture is sadly severely flawed and is reeking horrific problem after problem upon the world as a result. What the solution is, I don't know but let's at least be honest and acknowledge this rather than live in denial.

No details of those behind the attack have been revealed but the style of attack certainly fits in with the mo of a "fringe element" of certain minority group.

Really hate when something like this happens, too many are quick to speculate and point fingers before any real details on the situation and then loose the importance that, 19 people are dead, many more injured, and more may die at a later date, theses are men, women and children from all races and walks of life that are likely involved, fellow human beings.

It cause and the reasons behind it will come to light and regardless of that, what's currently needed is that innocents and their families deserve our condolences, respect and prayers not all the negativity that this has seemed to have spread.

I'm sorry but the troubles in northern Ireland weren't about religion.. they were about CONSTITUTIONAL position, NOT religion. No terrorist in northern Ireland ever commited attacks invoking a religious conceit as their motivation . Complete misnomer. "All religious extremists are dangerous, including the Christian ones. I've no time for any of them. Willfull ignorance is what it is.

Your from Belfast & your saying you've never heard of christian terrorists. Both sides of the divide were at it for years???

That wasn't about religion, it was about nationalism and constitutional position.. absolutely no equivalence.

"

Chance coincidence of the perfect segregation of faiths and targeting between both sides then?

It may have been based in those reasons you state but you can't deny religious differences didn't feature throughout and in the main towards the end.

I know that police/security and other services can't possibly stop every incident - but where the f**k were intelligence services/anti terrorist organisations or whatever they are called to stop this before it happened?? isn't that what they are supposed to do? We know there is an increased threat, they should be extra vigilant surely??
