A positive or a negative?

Following on from another thread, I thought I'd start this one as I'm curious (yeah, nosy) about how a person _iews their posts.

So would you say you're a positive or a negative poster? Do you add to the positive vibe or do you find yourself inadvertently (or deliberately!) creating negative vibes?

And do you think that you're consistent in your posts?

Sometimes positive. Today, negative. But I don't believe anyone is either one thing or the other all the time. And you could say that some, many, posts are a reaction to another post, rather than born out of the posters personality. For instance, I know I react negatively to the smug and self important.

I'm a positive person. ( not today because someone thinks pouring salt in my honey makes there's taste better).

So my posts are generally postive, if ave not thrown out half a dozen gags/quips/one liners before dinner. It's unusual.

Apart from Thursday, can I still be negative in Thursday?

The problem by being one type of person, your change in mood really shows online. The way you post can be picked up on.

That's how I see myself but thought I was odd! My posts vary from positive to 'negative' often depending on the words being read, rather than the poster. Yes, there are certain posts I should avoid but meh. Thanks for putting into words what I was thinking.

This feels far too introspective for me

I don't think my posts are either positive or negative. I think they are more neutral yet opinionated.

And I think a lot depends on the person reading, anyway. I've often said how postmodern the forums feel, at times. And I think that sentiment is reflected in how we read posts, not just how the poster meant a post to be taken. I've seen perfectly reasonable posts been misconstrued by the reader. It all depends.

Whether I'm consistent or not is for others to say. I *think* I am and certainly try not to be inconsistent but on t'interweb it's always easy for those with way too much time on their hands to go back and find inconsistencies.

I think my posts reflect my feels. I can be horny and filthsome, flirty and irritating, sarcastic and attempting humour, loving and caring, assertive and belligerent when enraged by injustice, patronising and dogged, melancholy and broken, lost and overwhelmed. I hope that even within this range, that I'm consistent in having an authentic voice that is me -- and that I err towards being full of hope and positive about possibilities, rather than negative.

But I guess it depends how another is "hearing/reading" me and the assumptions they will have made about how they'd like to frame me.

"I think my posts reflect my feels.

Your authentic voice is one of the truest on this site. Your latter point - so much yes! I think people put their own interpretation into your words often and that's more of a reflection of them.

I'm generally quite positive and try to spread positivity where I can. But everyone has off days or sometimes the negativity is so overwhelming it can be stifling and you find yourself reacting to it in a negative way. That's life though, its not always rainbows and butterflies.

Would you say that you've spoken up a lot recently?"

Not recently, I have found myself in the "what's the point? I doubt they'll listen anyway" frame of mind of late. That could be because I'm feeling that way at work and it's projecting into other aspects of my life.

Hmmmm, that actually makes sense!

"This feels far too introspective for me

I don't think my posts are either positive or negative. I think they are more neutral yet opinionated.

And I think a lot depends on the person reading, anyway. I've often said how postmodern the forums feel, at times. And I think that sentiment is reflected in how we read posts, not just how the poster meant a post to be taken. I've seen perfectly reasonable posts been misconstrued by the reader. It all depends.

Sorry! It's one of those days for Yes, opinionated is a good way to describe your posts.

Do you think it's possible for there to be a way in which posts are never misconstrued? "

No. People will always misunderstand one another. The fact that internet interactions are largely text based exacerbates this problem.

But I think what Estella said further up is true as well - people form opinions of one another and read into their posts accordingly. I know I do it (both for the positive and for the negative), and I've seen others do it, too.

It is what it is. With such a diverse array of people and opinions I think its unavoidable.

I'm going to say a bit more. I use self-deprecation as an antidote to posts that do the opposite. I also use it as a form of self-protection and a repellent. If I had the self-image I portray through the self-deprecation I would be mired in self-loathing which I'm not.

I try post positively when I'm being serious and it's a subject I know a little bit about. I sometimes call out things that I really dislike, like I did on the body-shaming thread the other night or when I've simply lost my patience with bullshit.

I try to steer clear of threads where I could say things I later regret.

I do post things that I find funny but humour is one of those things that can be both misinterpreted and fall flat, so no doubt both of those things happen frequently when I think I'm being witty. Hey but at least it made me laugh. I'd make a terrible comedian because I'd be the only laughing at my jokes

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but it's a good question and personally, I think it's difficult especially as if the person wants to find something negative in a post, they will. Having said that, there are enough passive aggressive posters here who will call 'negative' when all you were doing was acknowledging their sniping, bitchy post about or to you.

there's a lot of that around!

I always have a giggle at the sly little remarks that some posters put in their replies, having a little dig but worded in such a way that they can be 'defended' as innocent or misconstrued!

As Shag says these forums can be comedy gold and it is fascinating seeing all the game-playing going on at times!

Oh and I post my stream of consciousness and never check my posts before I post them - lazy bugger that I am. So I often remove posts because I can't live with the typos and auto-carrot word replacements or on the odd occasion errors of judgement and don't wish the post to continue in existence.

Hanky Panky - you are the one of the usually positive posters (imo). Silliness is good.

Lady Lick - your voice always rings true in your posts.

Miss Tyre - Don't you decline a meet with a smile on your face?;-)

PlayD8 - Sometimes the lack butterflies can be quite upsetting. But what with your smile thread helping combat that, your positivity is working.

Scarlet Seduction - Your bluntness is real. Fuck what others think (as long as you're not maliciously creating harm). I doubt you care anyways!

Babsjoan -

Ignitemybody - I always _iew you as being the other way around in all honesty.

Shy gent - I like a bit of debate too. It doesn't mean you can't be positive.

Bike Monkey - Do you try and change that? Or is it not an issue?

"

Cheers much

"Most of the time I'm positive.

On the odd occasion I have been negative it's a response to anothers persons comments.

I don't like to see bitchiness on the forums or people ganging up on others,so I won't post on certain threads.

Is that in response to the poster or the words? "

The words or the subject.

I don't dislike anyone on the forum. I may not agree with what some people have to say but it doesn't mean I dislike them as a person.

So people come across better via text than others.

I've, we, have met people whose worded posts I've not agreed with or have made me uncomfortable but in person they come across differently.

"I believe I am authentic. I will post positive but I don't walk past hypocrites and call that out, that will be labelled negative."

You do seem authentic. Apart from the dislike for snuggles. That's not true really!

I try to be positive about stuff but sum time I'm.just not in a positive mood so I wood gees my posts go negative "

Your consistent and true to yourself. If you're not in a positive mood, it can help not pretending to be. Sometimes it works the other way though. I dunno!

I try and emphasise that a lot. Unless the person is a horrible ist, there's no dislike as such. In text I am blunt and fairly raaahh. In reality less so unless you get me started on certain topics.

Good points (in a not patronising way!)

I'm kinda like a good bullshit detector so I am both!

If it's warranted I will say it, I'm not here to be loved by everyone

I like to think I act exactly how I would in reality. I try to be positive, mostly. However, sometimes I can react to things negatively but even then, I like to think I can put a reasonable point of _iew across.

I wouldn't say anything on here that I wouldn't willingly say to people.

This is why I avoid certain topics

I wouldn't want a ' holiday' for saying exactly how I feel.

Typing doesn't always convey the emotional response a topic can bring up.

What happens if the detector is a bit glitchy?

Limbo

I try to make level headed, diplomatic posts and if I feel compelled to disagree with someone (usually when they've written something I perceive as unpleasant, bullying, dangerously ignorant etc.) I'll try to explain my opinion rather than just ram it down their throat. I know I've rubbed a few people up the wrong way but that's never been my intention. I do try to be positive towards others when I can but sometimes find direct personal interaction difficult, never knowing quite the right thing to say, so sometimes hold back ... and I suspect that might convey a (false) impression of aloofness.

Most, if not all, of any negativity I spout is directed at myself

I think I'm more negative. Normally I'm just trying to make myself laugh and sometimes it's at the expense of others but I'm not negative to regular forum users, at least I hope I'm not lol

You do act the same (but with less quotes). Putting across a reasonable _iew point when it's some thing you're passionate about can be tough but you do it well

"

It's not a huge issue, I have never craved popularity and that goes for on here too bit sometimes I don't always like the impression I know other people have of me. But people that have met me know that I'm not the miserable cantankerous dick I possibly seem to be on here!

You do have an air of diplomacy about you. It's not difficult to rub people up the wrong way on here sadly, language is far too subjective and people interpret it and you in a myriad of ways. Yes, not interacting in a typical way can make navigating the forums at time difficult to say the least! Yeah, stop doing the last part!

I think we can end this thread with the agreement - and 47 people have agreed with me on this - that my bicep (left) is indeed mouth-wateringly tasty
