Not for me, not on here and only in a relationship.

Yes there's a risk of STDs, but imagine the situation of meeting numerous men on here, birth control failing, falling pregnant and having no idea who's made you pregnant.

Obviously condoms split, but that's why I always use condoms AND birth control. (and I don't meet numerous men on here.)

I personally prefer it, who doesn't? but only in a relationship. On here it's a necessity to help look after everyone without worry.

At least the GUM clinic will help you treat any infection, usually for free. I've never had to pay for the metronidazole they give me every time I get yet another BV attack, anyway.

you catch things even with condoms and i think regular health checks are a great idea coz if you do have something you can get it sorted better than damamging other people as some diseases are fatal and some can make others infertile. and thats passing it on even with protection involved

i often use protection, on some occasions i like not to.

from age 16 to about 30, i barely ever used protection, with the exception of a couple of short relationships there were so many one night encounters after being out in town or wherever, sometimes two partners in a weekend, quite often one and i barely remember using protection at all. and this was with people who were obviously ok with random bb encounters, never a thing..that first gum visit was scary though! i think the odds are lower than we perceive them to be and many of the infections aren't very serious anyhow, no worse than the common cold, or indeed a cold sore, people just look down their noses a bit as they were contracted through sex.

there are worse sti's obviously, but nothing that cuts down swathes of people every year like say the flu does.

a little bit of unprotected sex isn't gonna panic me quite yet

who tests you every few weeks the minimum amount of time you can be checked is 12 weeks hunni .... as it takes up to 12 weeks for STI's to show ... hence why they always ask when the last time you had unprotected sex for the incubation period ... so what results you can get every couple of weeks is beyond me if I'm honest ... I'm OCD about hygiene and diseases and go to my clinic every 12 weeks ... I can't go ant less that that as I've asked and tried abs it's pointless

really I'm shocked ... as most sexual health diseases have like I say incubation periods (doctors words nor mine) and I was told going any more regular than 12 weeks is pointless as nothing will show up in results .... they even whinge at me for going every 12 weeks .... well there you go you learn something new every day

I think people who quote testing as a safegaurd comletely misunderstand.

All that tells you is that you caught an sti up to 12 weeks ago and have potentially passed it on to all those you have barebacked with since.

The longest incubation is up to twelve weeks for HIV, so you cannot be sure you have not caught anything from an encounter in that time, but other sti are much less, within three weeks at most I believe.

The only time a health check is pointless is when you have not caught anything as then there is no further action to be taken.

If a health check showed you had caught something then further action is necessary and vitally important therefore the check that discovered it was extremely important.

It is at that stage any responsible swinger would stop meeting and inform those people they had had sex with they needed to get checked.

It would also be the time to start any treatment required.

So rather than being pointless it would be very important and to many people a wake up call.

Then change your clinic it is not doing what is best for you or anyone else.

You are correct about the incubation period of some STIs but others have shorter incubation period.

Besides that just take a minute to think about the situation logically.

If you only get checked every 12 weeks you could be infected and playing for at least 12 weeks before finding out you had caught something and still not know you are clear during the next 12 weeks.

If you get checked every day to take the other extreme instead of being unsure for 24 weeks you a sure that at least for the last 12 weeks you were STI free and each day that goes past adds a further day to your free period.

In practice a 12 week check up for some who plays frequently is too long and 4-6 weeks is a more reasonable compromise.

You can only ever be sure of the period up to 12 weeks before your last test.

Some sti etc problems will potentially show within hours - eg crabs.

Delays to getting tested are also bad, as earlier treatment is best and prevents others from catching something. Some places may start treatment within hours of sex.

Sperm is an irritant if it stays in contact with the skin for too long, isn't it?

I find this is lessened with a steady partner, however.

Condoms aren't nice, but they're necessary, sadly.

I don't buy that at all. If it jars someone's moral compass, then they are free to express that. I personally think that exposing her husband to life threatening illness and with complications from certain diseases (such as infertility). It's disgusting..
