"I think really intelligent life would choose to obliterate us now. Maybe artificial intelligence could develop, take a very quick peek and end it, if it's been built correctly. It would give the rest of life here a better chance " R2-D2 as Pres then

"Huge amounts of speculation both ways. The biggest problem with Hawkins idea is where to go and how to get there. The furthest man has travelled so far is the moon and we haven't done that for over 40 years. We no longer have the gibbons to do that without starting again." So.. The humans are fucked then.. Doubt we'd be missed, seeing as we contribute jack shit to the planet

"To survive.. Professor Hawkins said it. It's a damning statement for the human race. I read 'easter island, a warning for the future' about how the island was populated, and stripped of its flora and forna within a few hundred years, turning ludh paradise into a barron rock. Seems like we are just repeating thid on a global scale. Any thoughts? " Round numbers always make me suspicious with any figures

"Round numbers always make me suspicious with any figures That's why 42 is always the answer to life, the universe and everything innit sis " More than that I'm afraid, any serious figure would have probabilities attached to it. So a serious analysis would say "there is a 1% chance the planet has less than 79 years, a 50% chance it has 103 years and a 99% chance it has less than 321 years". That's just numbers 101, trust me bro, i done like studied them.

"I think the 1st recorded prediction of the end of the world was in AD66, and there have been many since, and guess what? They never seem to predict the end of the world for next week, when we and they are all still around to say - ha, it didn't happen! " Who was that? St Paul was pretty sure it would happen in his lifetime. Spoiler alert, it didn't.

"And he was just one of many whose predictions were rubbish! A bit like Mystic Meg - how come she didn't win the lottery every week, or in fact any week? " Certainly not my favourite saint. What about malthus, was he right but wrong about his dates?

"How was Malthus correct? He is still wrong!" Because ultimately finite resources can't serve an infinite population. I think he was right, just wrong on his dates.

"If you were a bright guy with many of the world's ears would you not be tempted to exaggerate a little to get people to pay attention and do something now rather than wait and let it be a problem later " Ooh that's deep. The ends justify the means - i like it.

"Population control is what's needed. It's ok the big global powers are mobilising for a massive global war to strip 50% off the world population (orchestrated by the Illuminati). The human race will ultimately survive but it'll be adios to us disposables .. Happy Friday everyone!! " They need us to do the money making for them.

Let's just take a huge leap of faith here and presume we can travel at the speed of light in 100 years time - even then everything is just too damn far away. A quick google suggests the nearest "potential" is something like 16-20 years away at light speed. Studying the physics to find ways to undo our effect would be better time spent. D

"We will have neither the capability or a destination available to mass migrate people from this planet in just 100 years. It may sound like a long time but in space travel development terms, its the blink of an eye. It's been 50 years since we first landed on the Moon and we are still only doing low Earth orbital missions and the U.S. don't even have the capability to launch manned missions. The population growth on this planet is out of control and has doubled to over 7.5 billion in just my life time." And it'll double again by 2050. Just saying. If everyone would just do the honourable thing and turn gay they we wouldn't have this problem.
