How often do you lot get into trouble for using locally accepted pet names on here which are out of place in other parts of the country?

Where I live it's perfectly acceptable to call a lady doll, or chick or hen. I have seen rage like no other when used down south. But Bird was more than ok? How many no go words are there? Obviously names are better but not everyone wants to disclose their name.

Here women are mainly called 'love' but their are areas you would get chased out of for using that

Men often get 'cock' or 'cocker' which has the same results in other parts of the country

As a born Londoner I really bristle if someone calls me 'love' - I just get this knee jerk reaction of intense irritation to it before I can work out if they're being condescending or lascivious (typical southern usage IME) or simply conventional and meaning no disrespect (more common northern usage usually).

"Wench" as above! I tend not to use that even in the homeland tbh, it's a dangerous one if you're not in EXACTLY the right area. "Bab" is the go-to friendly endearment, it's pretty inoffensive but apparently folks can find it really condescending if I use it in foreign lands.

It's love here, but took me a while to get out of the habit of saying it when I lived and worked down south. Had a few weird looks. X

Potentially loads of laughs there. We should make a travelling table of acceptable greetings lmao

And for the record I despise 'pal' it really doesn't sit well, I do the know why. It's more of a Glasgow thing anyway

"to me .. a pet name, is a term of endearment, given my someone who knows you...on here i have a profile name.. not using it, is just laziness "

So if I was to approach you in a pub/bar and i didn't know you, would you prefer me to say "hi clitoris allsorts, nice to finally meet you" not all places would understand, my bad habit is calling everyone "chick"

If you were to approach me in a bar..you wouldnt know i was CA..lol..... i would expect just a hello.. no term of endearment at all.. cos its all quite meaningless when you dont know me.. thnm makes giving a pet name to someone you really do know also meaningless..

Are you calling me darling?

Are you calling me bird?

Are you calling me darling?

Are you calling me bird?

They call me 'Bell'

They call me 'Stacey'

They call me 'her'

They call me 'Jane'

That's not my name

That's not my name

That's not my name

That's not my name

They call me 'quiet girl'

But I'm a riot Mary, Jo, Lisa

Always the same

That's not my name

That's not my name

That's not my name

That's not my name"
