My son got a verbal warning at school for saying "That's what she said" when a teacher said "whoa that is huge" to a font a student had used.

Would you rather the schools were providing access to abortions and sti tests?

Yeah I agree! It means nothing being a parent to a young teenager at time's,you're pushed to one side and not entitled to know nothing.

they cant and nor do I think the should tell parents... or the trust would be lost.

First thing many youngsters ask when coming in for advice is " you won't tell anyone will you"

I agree with this. I'm lucky with my girls cos we talk about anything. But if I didn't they would need someone to trust. XXX

I'm not saying I should be told when my daughter goes to them,I just don't believe schools should be dishing them out. My daughter is open with me and did start contraception which I drum into her,I just want some kind of control over what other adults think is appropriate in my children's life's.

Fantastic you've accepted they'll potentially become intimate with a current or future partner and have made provision.

Some would struggle to be so matter of fact and practical though.. delegating sexual education or safe sex etiquette to their peers in the playground or a brief sexual education module in their biology class..

Can understand both approaches , in the end it's only important the information reaches them before entering into a physical relationship with a bf or partner.

afraid I have at times been the person dishing them out. Ive also had friends of my children come to me for advise/help and yes ive given them condoms.

In the case of 1.. Id repeatedly had her ask to be dropped off as needed testing and morning after pill... when i asked her why she didn't use condoms her reply was she was to embarrassed to ( id already told her that maybe having sex wasnt the answer.. and suggested she open up to her mum )

Kinda crazy isn't it that they think they're mature enough to have sex,but not mature enough to handle it properly and get themselves protected. Parents play a big role in being open with their children.

It's not something that the schools actually have any choice over, it is mandated by government...

What will probably upset you even more is that schools must (if requested) facilitate access to doctors for sexual health checks & pregnancy tests... without telling the parents. Most often, this happens within school time, so that the parents don't need to know.

Yeah pisses me off big style I've already taken my daughter to a sexual health clinic,I don't need another adult doing my job as a parent for me!

It's more about protecting the children... you are obviously a caring and sensible parent who has the right communication with their offspring. Unfortunately there are many "parents" who are less understandable... and potentially telling these parents would be putting the children at risk.

Schools also have to try to do these things without singling out individuals.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

In some areas young people can get a card to take to the pharmacy to get free condoms. It saves them the embarrassment of their parents noticing if they've taken anything from the well-meaning condom drawer.
