Picking up from teh age gap thread...what makes some relationships good, what makes others bad.. What criteria are important to make it great? Does it matter what others think?

I will answer the last bit first. It makes absolutly not the tiniest bit of difference what anyone else thinks, why should it, its my relationship not theres.

What makes a good relationship, honesty, trust, spoiling each other with love and affection, never taking each other for granted carrying on doing all the things that you did in the beginning of the relationshi and not let it become mundane

I so agree that respect is hugely important for a healthy relationship.

ive never had a serious relationship so shouldnt really comment but just on observations of my parents..

The short term ones (6months) ive experienced there hasn't been trust (my fault) and they went down hill

communication is a great point soapy.. me and the ex split up and he cheated on me with someone else.. when i asked question he said 'well she was the lady i turned to and spoke about our problems too'

i was shocked.. he'd never mentioned anything to me before. He should have spoke to me and not her. Its in the past now, but lesson learnt

What makes a shit relationship is jealousy, obsessiveness, wanting to own the person, wanting the person to stop being an individual

I think genital chemical incompatibility can be a relationship killer. Nothing worse than being allergic to ya partners jack and danny.

My partner once said he thought love was being there for me even when I didnt want it. It made me cry because I knew he was right. Im very independent but have had a lot of family bereavement. He is my hero.

Maybe what makes a happy relationship is as different for everyone as the personalities involved.

A husband who whisks me off to the beach at the end of a traumatic day, sits me down with a blanket over my legs, hands me a glass of wine and barbecues for me, then sits next to me quietly while we watch the sun go down, well I guess his actions speak louder than my words.

Mistress x

We are about 15 mins outa Pontypridd and we do go to Crawley in west sussex 2-3 times a year so get in touch !!

Im suprised no 1s mentioned this but a good, active and healthy sex life helps coz the thought ov spending the rest ov your life with someone who is absolutly shit in bed would be a relationship killer surley?

You have a point, interesting, isnt it.. that on this site... nobody has mentioned sex before. And that surely has to be an important consideration, I agree!
