Confessions of happiness

Bunnyhop got me thinking with her favourite part thread. My favourite part of me is I care about ppl, especially the ones around me and I'm fiercely protective of them. Caring about ppl is one of the things that makes me happy. So as it's Sunday why not confess one of the things that make you happy?

Oddly... Complimenting people - in a sincere way, not just false platitudes ... Making them smile/blush and feel that tiny little bit better about themselves.... Knowing I've done that gives me the warm fuzzies. I'm likely to tell random strangers I admire their shoes/clothes/accessories in public places too.... and love seeing that little confident pep in their step as they walk away afterwards...

Empowering people, making people feel good about themselves. Just generally helping people.

I couldn't imagine life without doing this. It encompasses my job, my home life and my social life.

I sometimes have nothing left for myself, but that's the way I would rather be x

For me happiness is seeing my boys happy. When they laugh, when they show courage. When they make me laugh. When they show how much they care for each other. And especially when they for no reason just stop and hug me. They are my world.

Northern England

A few years back - I'd just split up with my wife, and I was really struggling financially with having to support my children and keep a roof over my head, whilst running my own business.

I had to make a last minute business trip to London by train. The ticket was £80 (which I could hardly afford) - so I wrote a cheque and handed it to the conductor. He gave me my ticket and then accidentally and unknowingly dropped the cheque near my foot, before walking off down the carriage to collect more fares. I noticed it on the floor, and instinctively put my foot over it, before surreptitiously picking it up and pocketing it.

I initially felt quite smug that I had in effect got free travel - and the £80 would certainly come in handy. However, later in the journey, the conductor returned and told me apologetically that he'd lost my cheque. I acted surprised, and went through the motions of looking under my seat for the mislaid cheque before shaking my head and telling him it wasn't there. He looked worried - and that's when the guilt kicked in.

Throughout the journey, the angel and devil on my shoulders argued over the situation; Lucifer arguing that the train company provide a crap service anyway, and a mere £80 means nothing to them - but it would make a huge difference to me in my present situation. Whereas St Michael argued that what I was doing was - in effect stealing. Who won? Well Lucifer did; and I decided to keep the cheque, but I didn't feel particularly good and I certainly wasn't very proud of myself.

On arrival at Kings Cross, as I walked down the carriage to the door, I noticed the guard on the phone - obviously getting an almighty bollocking from his boss about the lost cheque. In an instant, I changed my mind. I walked up to the guard and said; before I got off the train, I had another look for the cheque and it was under the seat in front - here it is.

The relief - and gratitude on his face was palpable, and a feeling of what I can only describe as enormous well-being came over me - which lasted throughout the day. The business meeting? Well, I absolutely nailed it.

So I suppose the answer as to what makes me happy - is simply doing the right thing by people. Well, that and the simple things that stimulate our senses and affirm life, such as the smell and smile of a baby, a friendly smile and greeting from a random stranger, a piece of music, the taste of a meal made for you with love, the feel of the early summer sunshine on your skin and time spent with the ones you love.

This is me I'd lay my life on the line to protect my family and close friends

It broke my heart when my darling Dad then my amazing partner passed away within 6 months of each other 2 and a half years ago and I couldn't to a damn thing

What makes me happy??

The smile as you kiss someone good morning, warm sun on my skin, my daughters laughing and affectionately calling me a nobhead, hugs off them -18 & 21 they are few but so bloody good when I get them,

Disney sunsets(you know, one so good it looks like a film still ), the first swallow of a cold drink on a hot day, the smell of an open fire, watching a band side stage and waiting for the crowd to bounce - those 18hr days are then so worth it, being told 'no more orgasms for gods sake', fresh linen,

the view from whernside looking back towards ingleborough and the lakes, the smiles of my friends just being all together ..mainly the simple things in life that you can't help but smile at .

And do you know how that gets even better? In the not too distant future (let's face it, time flies), they'll be having their own babies! I have 12 of the buggers and two of them have two of their own now and it's like a double whammy... it really is fabulous!
