I don't think the clique takes it over but just friends who flirt or are very chummy.

I do find it mildly irritating when it's someone asking for help only to have their thread taken over and mocked. That doesn't really make the forums the inclusive place it should be. But the mods are good at sorting that out if it gets ridic.

I'm guilty of this at times, and of public back and forth flirting. Sometimes the enjoyment or confidence to do it is in the public rather than PM aspect too. Whilst I'm sorry if it irritates anyone, I certainly don't post with the intent to irritate the person who gets irritated (and have no power over that person's choice of response anyhow), I'm also perfectly entitled to post for my enjoyment as they are entitled to be irritated by it. Such is life! It's the same as the fact I get irritated with people feeling they can tell people to take it to PM and dumping their irritation on others -- they've every right to say and do it, it irritates me -- it's life!

You see that's unfair. There may be a group of people who post regularly there that you define as a clique because they enjoy interacting with each other, but...it's unfair in that the whole spirit of that particular thread by erectjim is based on the premise of "everyone being welcome and in particular newbies" -- read the opening intro to the thread. Look at the fact that Jim answers every single person on the thread (despite getting teased for slowness as it's bloody hard work to keep up) and he encourages new people and reminds the rest of the gang in there to do the same. As Meli posted above, that's atypical of threads (bar some) on the forum re answering everyone -- it's certainly unusual to actively start by encouraging newbies to post. So whatever "feeling" you have (joking, pissed off, irritated, whatever) about why you think that's a "cliquey" thread actually you're being a bit daft, in my opinion.

Honey and I are starting the thread tonight and Jim will be joining later -- you're very welcome to join in and feel the inclusiveness, unless you'd prefer to be part of the clique that likes to pretend they're not for having human interactions!

Thing is singling out that thread as being cliquey when the OP's aim is the oppposite is actually quite hurtful to him. Cliques/people all being familiar with each other (however you call it) beyond his control is one thing but digging at the thread premise is hurtful. As the overly familiar groups could do with breathing and being conscious of new posters without compromising their own enjoyment, the sarky "I tell the real truthers" of saying what's wrong and criticising others could do with considering if they care that what they say can hurt.

You'll find they probably do the same thing in person when speaking to others.

Someone starts a convo, broaches a subject or personal matter. Within a few sentences the person they're speaking to inevitably refocuses the convo or starts talking about themselves one way or another.

Sadly some people have lots to say but nothing to talk about. The art of two way conversation certainly is that.

It doesn't really annoy it just creates a grin and spells a few things out.
