"I don't describe myself as alt, but I like horror and rock music and a few morbid things... but I'm not a stereotype as no tattoos, my hair is its natural colour and the only piercings I have are my ears." Similar here, I dress "alternative", I'm almost always in black jeans, band tshirts, big chunky military boots, and a leather jacket. But I don't actually consider myself very alternative and I wouldn't ever call myself that. I'm just me.

I don't even dress alt, mainly skinny jeggings or leggings and floaty blouses so more boho than anything else. The fact that I normally have a Stephen King novel on my person starts to give it away a bit though. I'm the same about just being me though, I don't do labels.

"Hmm. I've always been slightly put off by people who like to describe themselves as alt. We're all different to everyone else, ergo we are all alternative to someone else. Making a point of it seems a bit egotistical to me, a little 'I'm special because I choose not to look like/watch the same films as/listen to the same music as the mainstream'. Or maybe I just read too much into people's language choices." I understand where you're coming from with what you say.I see it differently. To me it's not a case of look at me I'm different,it's more being yourself and that not fitting into a mainstream (possibly the wrong word ) type of look. Most people in the UK generally aren't all that individual with how they look, there are a few different standard/accepted by society type of looks and the vast majority of people fit into one of those few,men especially.Music tastes and film preferences don't really come into it for me. It's not always about choosing to look different either, for some (myself included) it's about expressing yourself and feeling comfortable with yourself and how you look, nothing to do with wanting to be different.Granted there are some that like to be different because they think it's cool or edgy or they want to be "look at me I'm special because I'm different",but not all. Always good to hear others opinions on the subject though, thank you

I don't see it as a label,to me it's a description of a type of look.Suicide Girls for example,I would describe them as alt looking.Would you describe them differently?
