Kindle or turning pages?

Having just annihilated my holiday weight allowance on good old fashioned books I can say for me I like the feel of a good book rather than a Kindle.

Something about the smell and feel of a nice Tome that a Kindle can't match.

What do you prefer the real thing or the screen?

I do like books, but for practicality use a Kindle. However I borrow books from the library and I bought one on the spur of the moment last Friday (checked it was cheaper than the kindle edition )

Paper over digital please. The heft, the smell, the whole tactile experience.

The added benefit is that when the end times come and anarchy reigns, I'll be able to sit upon a throne made from skulls of my enemies and read my lovely paper books.

I like both. But the kindle wins for two reasons:

1- built in reading light

2- reading becomes free because I just download books off the internet

I prefere books ,I read alot and pass my books onto others it's recycling, Can't get away with kindle.

If I take books on holiday I always leave them for somebody to pick up.

I think the kindle is great for loading up books for a holiday and also for downloading new authors who usually have a cheap introduction book on kindle.

Kindle wins every time. I love mine and it has altered my life. I am an obsessive reader.

Its light to hold and easy to use and i no longer have to suffer pains in my hand and finger joints from holding heavy books.

It has a light on it.

I dont have to take a suitcase of books on holiday with me cus i have as many as i want on my Kindle.

Its cheaper.

I can share my ebooks with others.

Its wonderful

I just love a good nosey around book shops and stalls. You just don't get that of an App Store.

I kinda like the smell and feel weirdly. It's reassuring and immersive to turn a page. I just don't get the magic from a screen.

I ran out of room for new books a few years back and I cannot bear to throw them out, so it was the only option

Also, it doesn't hurt half as much as a hardback when I fall asleep and it hits my face

I forgot to mention that its easy to alter the size of the text on a Kindle too so its the perfect size for me to read.

I also actually really enjoying searching online for books i want to read. Theres far more choice for me than if i had to wander painfully around a book shop.

We took hundreds of my old paper books to a charity shop which will raise some money for them. However they said people dont buy as many as they used too.

There are two kindles in this house ... with just a handful of downloaded books on each.

There are also around 3000 (this figure's ever increasing) books, so I think my preference is pretty obvious. I love browsing round a bookshop, flicking through the pages and all sorts of random titles catching my eye - that simply doesn't happen the same way on Amazon. And I like lending books out too.

It's easier carrying around a kindle than several books because I read a few at a time. Luggage allowance also dictates kindle rather than books for holidays, I read at least one book a day

I love my kindle for practical purposes. It holds around 120 books at present including reference works which I can dip into as needed (and search) without needing to carry 10 weighty tomes around. It is light and takes up little room in luggage. It's easy to add books to.

I also like real books but am extremely limited for space, my job kinda defines where I live. I still have books and still love the tactile experience of reading real books and of browsing book shops and stalls.

Kindle wins for pure practicality but when I first got it I felt like I was betraying my books.

Books, I love the smell, sound feel of a book

From the crinkled wet pages in the bath to seeing my teeth marks in a cover when my hands are full.

To enjoying taking them to charity shops or lending to friends. I'm forever taking books to work I think a patient would enjoy

My Own Little World

While paper books will always be my 1st love, I have hundreds which I will never get rid of, I am a Kindle convert.

My Kindle currently has about 1500 books on it, it is light weight, easy to use and convenient, I can change the size of the font, the brightness and screen colour. If I forget my Kindle at home, I just download the book again on my phone. If I am feeling ultra lazy I turn on the text to speech, turn down the volume and the page turns automatically, great on a cold night when I want to keep my hands under the covers.

I have about 25,000 ebooks, which I know I will probably never read, but if I want to they are there ready to be installed.

But a ebook isn't really a real book though is it.

And my only real bitch about ebooks are the typos, who ever proof reads ebooks needs sacking. I had one book where every 'h' was a question mark, took a few chapters before I was used to it

I remember the old cobblers they would normally have a strip or two of hide which would have been Ideal to stick on the protective case of the kindle it would have the texture of a old cover and perhaps smell to, I was disappointed to find you could not download e books on to a memory card on a kindle perhaps being greedy for space but hopefully you can download everything else like games or videos to free up space.

Had books and a Kobo reader, only thing going for the Kobo reader is you can get old books easily.

Been reading Spike Milligan, war books. Had a lot of trouble finding decent ones.

Nothing better than going to a shop and buying a book however I find the kindle app great if I am unsure on a book as it allows me to download a sample, if I like it I will then go and buy it

I do prefer books and I'll admit it took a while to get used to the kindle. I find it more annoying that it's more difficult to judge how much you have left to go, even with the percentage on it!

However, I've grown to love my kindle, I go for anything cheap and cheerful and it's so much cheaper than buying books! Plus I was running out of space in my house as I just can't throw any away!
