Is it weird not to have any favourites?

This is something that I really struggle with and something that I dread when having conversations on here especially ...when the conversation turns to "what's your favourite food/song/film/colour?" etc etc. I always feel like I'm being put under a microscope and have to come up with something. ..but I honestly don't have favourites! I could pick things I strongly like, but to choose just one is impossible for me. I like a wide range of things and tend to like them for different reasons. So my question is, do you have favourites, or do you struggle to pick, like me? Does it make me indecisive? Am I a freak? I know others find it annoying and in my experience the conversation often never recovers as the other party thinks I'm trying to end the conversation. It really can make you feel a bit socially inept. Maybe I should make up some stock answers to avoid the awkwardness? Please tell me I'm not alone! Has anyone got any tips for making such conversations easier? I have been known to just stop replying when conversations take that turn, but there must be another way?

Perfectly normal!

It's a bit like when people ask 'who's the hottest lady' on Fab.

Hang on, there's LOTS of hotties I'm not gonna start ranking them!

In terms of tips, I dunno, I'll watch the thread with interest. I tend to go 'ooh, ahh, not sure really. I like a few ...'

I think you've explained it very well in your post, OP. Have you tried a similar explanation to those who ask what your favourite is, and what reaction did you get?

No you're not alone like that. I like some things more than others but don't have strong likes and dislikes in many of the areas you've listed.

Small talk like that can be very difficult. I don't find there's any one answer to getting past it. Just hope that we can find a topic that interests us both. X

I'm the same as you, OP, in that I find it hard to pick favourites in most categories. So I just say that. Or start listing contenders. Or apply logic. Favourite colour? I don't really have one but I wear a lot of blue and hardly anyone looks good in yellow, do they? That kind of thing.

That's a good question, and yes I have but I still get the impression they think I'm looking for a way out or don't want to divulge for whatever reason. It also means that there's nowhere really for the conversation to go because you then can't go on to discuss the reasons for your choices etc

No you're definitely not alone OP, there's many things in which I don't have a favourite. Colour for example, I really don't have one

I have a favourite wine, but apart from that I'm like you. I'm far too promiscuous in my tastes to have favourites

I think it reflects on the person asking rather than you.

Not great questions. They could be framed better for more conversation. What book are you reading? What type of film do you like?

Makes perfect sense to me. It's like if someone says what's your favourite position - I don't have one. Why have one ? When so many of them are good for different reasons. Plus we have different moods and that can make our favourites different dependent on our particular mood that day.

.

It's why if there's a thread about your favourite 'x' I end up listing quite a few things.

I'm not sure how useful the advice is but I try and limit it to three answers if a question is asked like that. That way a conversation can still be had and I don't give a standard response.

Definitely not alone. There so many things to like it is very hard to decide on just one thing. My tastes change as I get older

I think when you're a kid, it's easy to have favourites.

You start with colour, then graduate to pop star, t-shirt etc.

As you get more experience of the world, you realise what a cornucopia it is and that, for example a nice rioja is just what you want when you're having tapas where as a crisp cool white is ideal for a chilled out drink with friends on a warm summer's evening and a long cold pint slakes your thirst after a ten miles hike in the country.

It gets even more complicated when it comes to this place. People often expect you to have a type be it red-head, blonde, bbw, milf or whatever. The truth is all that stuff is superficial isn't it? As grown ups our tastes are much more sophisticated and as such it comes down to whether or not people "click" - though I have to admit, it helps if your favourite colour is green

Defintely not weird and a good trait to have, I'm the same.

Online dating would be a good example asking what your favourite things are ? would be virtually impossible to answer for somebody like me.

I've never had one best friend either as all my close friends have different qualities.

its a question not a searching question the person asking is just passing time of day with you but as with everything no pressure ever ,so relax deep breaths and next time the question gets asks just say I'm so laid back that life in general is my favourite ,waking to the birds chirping and a cooked breakfast served to me is enough to put a smile on my face

I don't really do favourites either. People sometimes think I'm a bit weird when I refuse to answer.

I'm not sure I have a list of favourites either although every time I get into my bed with lovely fresh clean sheets that smell of home, I'm hard pushed to think of something that I love more so I think that's my favourite random thing of loveliness!

Otherwise I have a zillion things that I like but they could differ each day depending on my mood. I'm not sure I've given it a huge amount of thought before but I only ever write with purple ink but I wouldn't say purple is my favourite colour.

I normally have favourites, that's just because if I like something I become rather obsessed with that film or tv show etc so it's hard for me not to have favourites. And I don't really share because there's always some asshole on the internet to say it's shit or think they're so much better. Normies

I'm weird because your new username gives me a slight cunt twitch and the overwhelming desire to commence a filth assault. And then I remember it's you. And then that's hot in a different way. Multilayered fun.

OP, it's not weird at all. Mostly I don't have favourites. Although sometimes I most certainly do.

Apart from cheese and onion Walkers crisps I don't have favourites either.

I can be drawn to something one week, and something different the next, depending on my mood.

There and to the left a bit

Nothing weird about it at all OP as you and others have said we all have strong preferences for one thing over another but that may change at any given time or may include a range of things.

If the conversation fizzles out because you can't name a favourite I'd suggest it'd have fizzled out anyway. You either spark with someone when chatting to them or you don't, regardless of whether you can provide an endless list of favourite things.

I don't think not having favourites is odd and I think in this day and ag

If asked could I say what I considered (ATM) my favourite song/film to be? I think I could but it might change depending on a number of variables
