After reading a post where somebody gave advice saying as long as you love each other...

I wondered what love means or is. In my experience love is or means different things to different people. So I'm looking for the definitive definition of love. As I think I've been in love with 3 people during my life and the live always fizzled out after a number of years.

So what is love!!?

That's what it means to me. But I had a FWB who said my definition was foolish and refused to admit she was in love with me. However threatened suicide when I thought it best we stopped sleeping together and just be friends. She said we couldn't just be friends

There are many people who wouldn't be able to carry on being friends after the other chose to end a FB/FWB relationship that has nothing to do with love.

I have never enjoyed being in love as it has always led to pain for me (due to the quality of guy I chose to fall in love with). I was in love with the idea of being in love, and found out pretty sharpish that some men out there capitalise on that.

Also not sure why Love is symbolised by the heart, when it always gave me stomach ache.

It's that heart fluttering warm contentment feeling you get when thinking of that person. Knowing that if they hurt you do too. Being able to be yourself and let them see your vulnerable side and they still want you despite of your flaws.

Knowing that they would die first before anyone or anything could harm you. Oh god this is all so soppy for a Sunday morning. It's indescribable but you know if you're in love x

I didn't want her to love me. We had fantastic regular sex and that's all I wanted. She has a family and I've got kids. So it was all undercover. But she fell in love and started making commitment demands. But wouldn't admit she had fallen in love..... I had to end it.

In my view, the only lasting, unconditional love is between parents and children. Romantic love is a different thing. There is also the general, all-inclusive love of one's fellow man which is different again.

Love is very similar to infatuation but without the extremes.

There are many forms of love dependant on ones relationship with the other person (i.e. the love of a parent for a child is different from one parent to their spouse).

It is not something that can easily be described but it is that feeling you have when the person it is directed at is at their most annoying and being extremely unreasonable and demanding yet you have no doubt they are the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.

This a really deep one for a Sunday morning !

Love for your parents , siblings , children and pets is one thing and more often than not a given . An instinctive built in love .

But love that is shared as a couple is a completely different ball game . It develops over time and is fuelled by desire , lust , and all manner of emotions not necessarily associated with the above type of love . Of course the initial lust driven desire will develop into compassion , trust , the wanting to keep your partner happy , safe , protected , desired , and so on , if love is true as time goes by .

I liked the bit another couple said about having each other's back even when they didn't like each other at the time . That's love , as is giving the freedom to think and do to your partner . Way too many people try to change their partners perspective on things to their own . To be able to listen and not judge your lovers perspective on things is important .

To share the good times together , and to support each other through the rough times again is vital . To understand that neither one of you is perfect , and you will fuck things up now and again , but you have forgiveness in your heart .

I watched a programme on domestic violence recently and it was horrendous. When the women were asked why they stayed with the men, they predictably responded that they loved them. What they didn't want to admit is that they hate being alone and their self esteem is low to imagine getting anyone better.
