yes I have with work tho many times... each time was great, sometimes a tad lonely as i didn't want to socialise with people from work.

do you have a job to go to, a home set up... what is the employment like there? do you have anyone close at hand if you become poorly etc etc

more north lincs than mids!

Moved to Germany with Larry after we married. Have since moved back to the UK and I love it here, so much better than Glasgow altho I must admit that I do miss the shops that Glasgow offer.

southend

I moved from Scunthorpe to Southend. I had no family here, and left behind most of the people that knew me the best.

I did move down to be with some close friends, so I still had a support network.

Best thing I ever did. I get lonely sometimes, being away from my friends, but not my family. But I love it here. Opened new avenues, made new friends. Glad I did it.

I want to go to Whitby- and am a country bumpkin really, so sheep don't worry me :o)

The job situation is one I could create myself and I have a flat to sell, plus some pennies, so wouldn't be short of a house

And Fabio- I want to get AWAY from the city....Newcastle ain't an option- tho you'd be closer to come visit me :o)

Bristol is ace.

But so is York, and Yorkshire is a fab place! Whitby is a bit in the middle of nowhere though. And it gets over run by Goths twice a year!

I'm 50 and live eight miles from where I was born! I work eight miles from where I live: I'm the only one of my four sisters that hasn't ventured far: even my parents left London in 1987 for Preston!

My younger sister dropped out of uni and decided to make her fortune in Italy. 23 years later, lovely husband, gorgeous daughter, good life, blissfully happy.

If you get the opportunity go for it! I've not given up hope of moving away from London, but my final resting place will be with my son in West Norwood cemetery...less than eight miles from where I am now!

I'm from Bedfordshire (born in London) and I met Siren on here in 2007. We were married in 2008 and I upped sticks and moved up to Newcastle. I've travelled the UK extensively working but had never been to Newcastle before.

I could never move back down south now - I find it too frantic, too fast, too busy.

"Ever just upped sticks and moved somewhere completely away from what they know? Am giving serious consideration to moving somewhere I would love to be- "

Funnily enough, it is what I'm considering right now!!!!

I'm just waiting for information from an Employment Service contact of mine as to which area hasn't too bad unemployment.

Though, it seems that it is Midlands or south of that area which are the places to be.

Just in case anyone is thinking of my current area - Hull - don't do it!

" Whitby is a bit in the middle of nowhere though. And it gets over run by Goths twice a year! "

I've been there, and you're right, it is Goth City. Even the seaside rock is black and almost every sweet is made of liquorice.

Part of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula was set in Whitby, and incorporated various pieces of Whitby folklore, including the beaching of the Russian ship Dmitri, which became the basis of Demeter in the book. Furthermore, it was at the original public library on Marine Parade in Whitby that Stoker discovered the name "Dracula."

Torquay

In 1997 we moved to Devon from the South London area, it was a massive move and involved a great deal of upheaval on a personal front.

I am going to do it all over again in about 30 months when I move to Salou in Spain, it will this time be more difficult though as I will be leaving my sons behind in Devon.....but they are men now and know they will be very welcome to live with us over in Spain whenever they wish to.

I found the first year or two to be the hardest....but once you settle it gets easier, and then you find you would probably never wish to go back.

Did it a lot when I was younger.

When I moved into my present home (where I plan to stay for a wee while at least), I worked out that I had had 21 different adresses, from the ages of 20 to 35.

Sometimes the moves were planned, sometimes they were spur of the moment, the biggest 1 being a call from a friend saying im in Aberdeen, you want to come up, went up the next day, stayed 6 years.

As long as you have a job, you will meet people and make new friends. Cant say I was never homesick, but the experiences and the friends I made from those years on the road are something that I wouldnt trade.

Go for it.

Never been to Whitby. Whens the houseparty invites going out.

about 15 years ago moved nearly 200 miles from where i was born and bred cos of my now exs work. Didnt know anyone or have any family close had three young children so it was a kinda sink or swim situation and i decided i needed to come out of my shell and make the most of it. Made some really good friends altho missed my family but made me what i am today. Shame ten years later i returned close to where i was born and realised that i couldnt return to my shy and retiring ways - dont think people here are as accepting lol
