Bisexual, gay and trans people - how did you come out?

Admittedly I knew for years and I kept it to myself, however I was bought up in a very open minded household and I accepted it as normal.

Then I met my first girlfriend when I was 20, changed my relationship status. I was at my mum's house around a week later, she said that she & my step dad had seen us out together and had recognized my girlfriend's bright pink hair. So I started to explain, and my mum cut me off and said she already knew!

Thankfully my mum's always understood, and she knew that I look at who a person is rather than their gender without me having to explain that - she just knows.

Erm, I'm not sure it's coming out as such!

I had a few girlfriends and that was more than fine with my immediate family (the joys of a bohemian upbringing!). My mum was constantly trying to set me up with her friends daughters if she found out they were gay.

It wasn't until I was in my second year at uni that I realised I was also attracted to men - my partner at the time was invited to our house (he has an androgynous name). The shock when they realised their assumed he was a she was quite amusing and lots of jokes were made about my 'faux lesbianism'.

They haven't assumed another gender of a partner since then!

I suppose in all honesty other than during a time of youthful experimentation my of sexuality and proclivity arose from a desire to have some sort of emotion free sex life beyond the tragedy which meant I was no longer on a physical plain with my one true soul-mate......

I would gladly have stayed straight and monogamous had circumstances allowed ....

Only my wife knows that I'm bi and tbh that's the way I want it to stay , my first bi experience was in a threesome with my wife and a 'single ' guy we met on here ( when we had our couples profile) .

Some of my friends know. Family don't. The only member of my family that I'm close to is my dad, it's not something I'd disclose to him but it's not something I'd deny if asked.

Chester

I was in the military when it was against the rules to be gay. Hated lying about my weekends and meeting "girls". A few weeks after the ban was lifted on a pub night out with most of my squadron I stood up after many drinks and told everyone.

Apart from one guy who was under the impression that you could catch gay from shared toilets, I've never had a problem.

My sister had guessed years ago and so had my mum. She completed my sentence when I tried to tell her and broke down.

Happily out ever since, even as my alter ego.

My family were supiscious of a close female friend I had as a teen but then I married a man and it was all forgotten.

I dont think I really ever came out, my first girlfriend was my friend and we got closer over time so everyone around us kinda saw it developing.
