Geography gets in the way.

I hear this a lot and then think it's kind of an easy excuse isn't it.

It is but....let's face it being realistic is better.

I guess a local meet is hard enough to organise with life and work constraints. Distance makes it harder for a social first?

Grantham

For some it is the truth. They see anything not on their doorstep as hassle.

Other people will travel miles to get together if the desire is strong enough

I guess everyone has their reasons for not wanting to travel too far - it might be 'laziness' for some, but others won't want to (or can't) meet the costs involved in travelling long distances, some only have limited time to meet due to childcare arrangements or work constraints etc., etc.

Personally when I really want to meet someone I'm happy to try and bridge the distance gap providing they are too. I kind of see it like any other attraction I want to visit ... e.g. if I desperately wanted to see Stonehenge I'd have to invest time and effort to do so but it'd be worth it in the end if I could fulfil that wish.

There are people i would love to meet but unfortunantly they are too far away for just a couple of hours. Id travel maybe up to an hour regularish but anymore would really make me think

At times yes! I had someone travel 4 hours each way just to stay less than 24hrs with me right after christmas a few years ago

I like to meet more than once so someone far away isnt ideal. But if the desire is there on both parts then i'll make it work. One amazing weekend away is better than 5 mediocre ones at home.

a quandary, could you change my mind?

As others have put, it's not just geography, it's time, possibly travel costs, other life commitments.

If you / they have a hit it off only between you will it happen, if it is right its right.

This is realistic and youve nailed it. As a professional, my playtime is rare and limited, part of the reason fab fits my lifestyle well is because of the inability to service a proper relationship fully due to lack of expendable time to dedicate to a full time partner.

Geography sucks. I'm attracted to a lot of people who live miles away. I understand the likelihood of ever meeting them is slim. Kids/work and other things can be obstacles too.

The lust/desire sometimes is too much, that's when I'm brave enough to ask. . I'd like to try and meet halfway.

Op. Sometimes the best moments in life are worth the effort and wait.

Geography is a problem for most, I get around and travelling isn't an issue for me but I think most people prefer local, which is understandable. Most are also not keen to meet people passing through, which I also understand. So basically I'm away a lot and not close to home and also not a good deal for people further away.....screwed both ways lol

Central

Given the choice - and many here really have lots of it - between a meet that's simple and practically those more likely to be accomplished and another that's longer distance and isn't, it's likely that the former take priority.
