Sunbeds what's everyone's thoughts.

I've been reading a few medical articles online about sunbeds being good for fibro. But I go bright red in the sun cos of my colourings n freckles. Also there's the cancer risk. It sayes once weekly use is beneficial especially in the winter months.

Having never used a sunbed I don't know how my skin will react. Will I burn like I do in the sun?

You can do if you go for too long. All the places I've ever been give you really good control of how long you want to be there.

If it's your first time, just start with a short go to see how you react, and build up from there.

Don't use them, Melanoma is on the rise because of them, there's no such thing as a healthy tan.

It's not the tan I'm interested in. It's the warming benefits to help with pain and to loosen my body. Xxx

Your melanin is slow to come to the surface, so you burn before your natural defences come up.

You can get some treatments to move the melanin up to your skin surface. You basically spray the stuff on, prior to when you would expect/hope to spend time in the sun. You need to spend time outside to get daylight on your skin when using it for at least 2 weeks. Still need to use sun protection in the sun, just helps to stop burning. I use Zhush.

i have used them very briefly to clear psoriasis, and will do again this summer..as a side effect, it really helped with joint pain..i went on 3 times, for 4-6 minutes last year, and it cleared my skin for about 6 months...there is no risk at all using them that infrequently..the cases of skin cancer related to sunbed use are, as far as i have read, all people who not only used them excessively, but also tanned in the sun as well. Any god salon will have plenty of information to hand without scareonmgering.

ah yes it mentioned join pain skin issues and pain relife. I just don't want to go on n burn like I usually do cos that will negate the benefits. Xxx

I think there is always risk of skin cancer but I started using sunbeds much later in life (40's) and i think a few mins here and there isnt going to hurt but it might be different for each person. I use it probably only a handful of times at the beginning of the year to feel good and prepare for a tan if i go away or for the summer months.

im pretty pale skinned, never tan in real sun, but when i tried sunbeds i started really low, just 3 minutes i think the first 3 times, and i really felt the benefit to my pain...it wasn't,obviously a long term solution, but it was certainly a nice side effect...the salon owner said she had a few clients who used them just for benefits to arthritis etc related pain.

I love them. I've zero body confidence but feel so much better with a healthy looking tan. I don't know if its the same sort of bulbs used for light therapy but a sunbed always puts me in a good mood.

If it's heat you're after would a good spell in the jacuzzi or Sauna not do it?

Personally I think sunbeds are dangerous given the concentration of UV radiation but most people want to live in ignorance-

That sounds positive thank you. I'll pop to one in the week. It's gotta be worth a try especially as there's scientific proof. Xxx

as the OP has said, she is not going to get brown...and as i said, after having researched it a lot for myself, going very few times, at a very low level, has less risk of skin cancer than lying out in real sun..and ,as i said, as far i could find out, any sunbed -linked cancer has been in people using them excessively, over many years.

I take vit D and have been thinking about a UV sun bed as I hear it can help with pain, though I am a just too on the fence with it to try them out.

Yea the evidence of them helping with pain relief is pretty strong.

I'm going to try them I think, on a limited basis prob 3mins once a week n see how I get on. I'll report my findings. Xxx
