I think 7 is a strong link to David, it was his shirt number for England. Plus its a lucky number

"The Seven in the name is believed to be a reference to David's football number when he played for Manchester United and England, while the Harper could be referring to Harper's Bazaar magazine or perhaps To Kill A Mockingbird author Harper Lee.

A close friend of the couple said: 'Harper is an old English name something Victoria has always liked. Seven is a very lucky happy number and the baby was born just after 7am, in the seventh month.'"

Harper is an old Scottish name, the motto on the coat of arms reads "Et sauvis et fortis" this translates to pleasant and brave.

I really hope that in years to come, their kids have the "nous" to change their names by deed poll to something sounding more realistically "human".

Otherwise, they'll likely carry on this stupid theme for ever!

Or am I hoping against expectation?

I think a person grows into their name. In years to come im sure we wouldn't even bat an eyelid at the Beckham's children's names.

I've a friend who called her daughter 'Levi' (like the jeans) but it really suits her.. sounds odd that a name can suit someone but i think she wouldn't be who she is if she'd have been called 'Jane' for instance.

I love the new baby's name. I'm always of the opinion that if you don't like a name then don't call your child it. Each to their own and all that.

And anyone who thought they would go down the traditional, princess name route is clearly just as bonkers IMO of course

When i named callum i went for something with a meaning, had a nice ring to it and was reasonably unusual in england although very common in ireland and scotland. In both junior school and secondary school he was the only one with that name.

Hes 21 now and all of a sudden about 6 years later everyone started calling their kids callum

His name was never Zowie. Bowie made it up for effect. His name was and is Duncan Jones.

As for Harper Seven, I think they named it after the time Coronation St starts.

At the end of the day, it is their business what they call their child, many weird and wonderful names have been introduced over the years and are now in common usage and a lot of old names are coming back into fashion, one thing we all know is that they have proved themselves to be good parents and the child is never going to want for anything

David and Victoria named their baby girl Harper Seven ... Because she was born in the seventh month, during the 7th hour, weighed 7 pounds and was born to a skeleton wrapped in alien skin who has 7 grams of fat injected into her lower lip & just as many IQ points.

Poor child?

The baby will grow up in a world of luxury, she will attend the best schools money can buy, and the social circle her parents live in will see her mixing with the children of the rich and equally famous.

Her name will not seem that unusual in those circles, she will hardly be going to the local secondary school.

Good luck to them, and I hope the new baby brings them much joy.

Sounds to me like the time of day the kid was born!"

That's what the Seven stands for. She was born in the 7th month, just after 7am and was 7lb 10oz. It also has meaning for her dad. He was number 7 playing for Man Utd and England.

"Glad the scan went well Wishy. Were you offered your babys scan on dvd. My friend had these amazing pictures of her baby. Wasnt like that in my day, when it was just a grainy black and white scan pic

Not at 12 weeks, it was just the old B&W snapshots. We're having a 4d scan done at 26-28 weeks same as we did for our lad. And yes, they are amazingly clear."

I'd have loved to have had that, it must be amazing to have something so special

Most folk think of a simple name as being one where there's no chance of misspelling.

Jane, or Jayne, runs that risk. I expect you'll know yourself how often she's had to spell it out or correct someone else's incorrect assumption.

I like it too.

I gotta say that when naming babies, dont the parents ever think of the kids ???? Some poor kid has to go through life with what you pick so a lot more thought and consideration should go into it , instead of trying to come up with the weird and the wonderful

"The only person that I think should have the name 'seven' is Seven of Nine. It would be a dream come true for her to say to me, "Your cock will be assimilated into my pussy! Resistance is futile!"

Um... er... ok then. Assimilate away! "

I think the owner of that profile will be bringing it back soon, bollocks to psychic sally im future telling femme.

so many peeps judge parents that give unusual names way too harshly i feel but then maybe because we gave our youngest in incredibly unusual name

we were told we were being cruel and he would get bullied because of it and when we went to register him the registra told us we had a certain ammount of time to change it which they didn't do with our oldest son and talking to friends never said to then either

but all the same we went ahead and called him it and as it turns out he so incredibly suits it, he is so rediculously confident and beyond gregarious and loves the fact his name helps him stand out

in fact the other day he informed us that when he has a son himself he will also give him the same name as he loves it so much and he feels it has stood him in good stead and he believes it helped to form his character, his words not mine.

Sounds like you have a fantastic young man there.

We have given our son an unusual name which didn't go down too well with family etc but DH and I love it and tbh, that's all that matters.

I always say, if you don't like what someone has called their child then don't call your child it If we all liked the same names then the world would be a pretty boring place

Yeah, I can live with that! But...

Our kids both have ordinary names. Both are outgoing, have great jobs and are real characters and we are immensely proud of them. They are both bringing up our Grandsons in the same manner and we can see the same brightness as we saw with our kids.

Neither needed a name to stand out, they did that very well on their own, but that is just the way they are

It is not the name that does it, it's just good old fashioned parenting! So well done you, take a bow xx

I do feel that a strong name gives a kid a good start in life - well, it doesn't hinder them anyway. How they then develop is as the poster said above, down to good parenting, patience and perseverance.

My daughter is a very bright 13y/o who is top of her year at school and has been all the way through since the age of 5 (she's proud of her record and won't relinquish it to anyone, and that drives her on).

Our son is 2 and he's showing the same levels of intelligence as his older sister. He absolutely understands what I'm saying to him but doesn't have the confidence to use speech to reply, but he sings and talks to himself all the time when he thinks nobody is listening. His confidence will grow and expand as he gets older and then I don't think much will phase him at all.

We love ordinary names for kids...and if people want to be different forget dopey names like India and Jazz and call kids Susan, Carol, David etc...

Its strange how it always seems to be girls that get saddled with weird names..

I'm sure the new baby will be the same! If you have already instilled the right values into two children and that far apart, that's not luck, that's good parenting!

Our oldest Grandson is three on Sept 1st and is as bright as his mum was at that age... Show young Theo any number between 0 and 1000, he will tell you what it is! He can count very high too... (looses interest after around 60)

His spelling is great and he can write Mummy, Daddy, Radox, Palmolive, Fairy and many other words including the months! And that is why I think that although as Wishy said a strong name can't hinder, it is parenting that has the bigger say in that child. Theo is not at all what most would call a strong name.

Hope all is going well Wishy and Siren is enjoying her pregnancy x

i heard a mum on the bus shout out to her kids a few months ago - shakira and shania. i've heard of people calling their kids princess or diamond (no offence to anyone), and armani

my brother was originally going to be called peter ian george and my mum realised his initials would have been pig!
