Insurances reflect a lot of things, not how often you should stick to the speed limit.

"A taxi driver should be thinking of his passenger's safety, and sticking to the speed limit. The more you drive, the more chance you have of being involved in an accident; you should drive as safely as possible, not be given leeway, because you drive more." What about in between jobs or in their personal lives?

My car has one, once set you cannot go above the limit you set. Very handy in a 30 limit, for example, where it is easy to drift above without noticing.

"But you only get points for doing things that are against the law? Id expect professional drivers to be more vigilant since they spend more time on the roads the opportunity to have an accident increases!" As does the opportunity to get caught speeding using your phone or not wearing a seatbelt all illegal but easily done by anyone.

"Road traffic laws have evolved in relation to technology but the totting up system has not, why is that? Why does the totting up law need to evolve? ![]() Completely irrelevant point and analogy. You're purporting that you should be allowed more penalty points on your licence? I haven't seen a valid reason for it. Most offences generally carry 3 points unless they're more serious. So you're arguing that being caught 4 times isn't a reasonable time to tell a driver that they've had enough chances? Would 5 make them feel better?

"The totting up point is moot, if you drive within the constraints of the law, you get no points. It's really not that difficult to pay attention to your speed, put your seatbelt on, leave the phone in the glove box, not sit scoffing a Big Mac at the wheel, apply your lippy at 80mph." Lippy offences should be an automatic 1 year ban fs ![]()

"If totting up was made more harsh then perhaps road safety standards would improve. People would think more before knowingly committing any driving offence. " How would that effect the government and the millions they rake in for fines each year?

Sore asses can't drive. ![]() ![]() ![]() All joking aside...the average cost of investigating a fatal accident all in equates to an astronomical amount of money. The cost of other collisions is hefty too. So to be honest, any financial penalty going back into the running of the transport infrastructure is perfectly reasonable, if you're the one jeopardising it's smooth running? I don't see how increasing the points on your licence will do anything but allow people to commit more offences? Maybe in the future driverless vehicles will prevent all of this.
