Great news.

A courageous and decent man, doing his job in an appalling situation. Then locked up for doing the best under the circumstances.

Hopefully he and his fantastic wife can live a life of peace and happiness.

It's a terribly complex situation.

I get the "men like him keep us safe" thing. I also get its war.

But the British forces are governed by law. And what stupidity filming it and allowing it be mainstream.

I'm glad he's free but it's far from simple. Would we have felt that way if an enemy combatant had done it to a British soldier?

this.....

it would be far more dignified if those people who are mainly his cheerleaders would stop defending things that the person himself is not defending......

I don't think he should be released, but he is.

There really isn't any cause for celebration though.

Cheerleaders? Before I made a statement like that i would be certain i know who I was making it to because you don't know on here.

Facts. He is a decent man.

He was doing his job that he was trained to do.

The dead man was the enemy.

Simples!! End of.

if it was that simple then there would be no need of a thread cheering his release...

It's a whatever.

He did something he shouldn't have.

He did it on camera.

Some one saved the footage and it got found.

People did worse, a lot never got caught.

The prat who sent us to war to please the Americans is walking around free after lying about WMDs.

and you do?.... did they call you as a witness?

cool.... please.. lets deal with "fact"

a) he shot dead someone

b) that act was found to be "unlawful"... manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility

c) Sgt. Blackman is not challenging the verdict of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility

there are your "fact's".... you are challenging something that the person himself is not challenging.....

he could if he thought he did nothing wrong..... but he is not!

oldham

Coming from a military family there are 2 sides to every story. The guy he shot wasn't going to survive as he had been hit by Apache gunfire so i believe. Not many people survive that. So was he putting the guy out if his misery. Maybe. Maybe not. He knew what he was doing in shooting an unarmed enemy. Totaly against the geneva convention. Does the enemy play by those rules. No. But that doesn't make what he did right. And he knows that! He was daft enough to have it filmed. There is his mistake. Would other people do the same in his situation. Who knows unless you have been in that situation. I'm glad he's being released but i won't be cheering for him on his release. It's still murder.

Are, purely subjective my good man.

Let's agree to disagree.

Just be proud of the fact that decent men like him are our defence services who are the envy of the free world and they keep us free.

Telling me you've never lost your temper? Fact that he's not contesting the sentence makes him decent.

You make a mistake, you admit it you take the consequences.

I once cocked my SA80A1 and aimed it at a loud mouthed teenager who said something really stupid to me.

I very very nearly fired.
