Ladies...how do you feel about being called..

a bird.

As in "cor..look at the tits on that bird"

Or..."you're a top bird"

Or you overhear a couple of blokes talking "met this bird last night and she could suck start a harley davidson i tell ya"

I often call women 'birds'...think its a southern thing

i personally dont mind it, as you say its a southern thing and its just commonly used round here..

i get referred to as a 'maid' a fair bit

i used to work with someone used to call women 'chick' (think it was because he couldn't remember names). it used to drive me insane. one day he rang up and said "hiya chick, how ya do", i replied with "tweet fucking tweet".

Ahh thats a good example right there...if you overheard your noyfriend on the phone saing "my bird..." You wouldn't be that keen?

I got a d*unk at a works do once and got chatting to my bosses wife and referred to my ex girlfriend as my 'ex bird' and she said 'what breed was she? Cockatoo or canary'

Bird is a common word used in Luton too. I've used it many times to refer to women. I don't use it so much these days though - I'm more refined now.

really?...so you dont like "seedart" or anything like that? I am alwasy calling women 'love', i always have, not in a bad way...when collecting change in the supermarket i say "cheers love"...also when i ask for something i often tag love on the end

Its funny I had this conversation with my partner a while ago and being a Brummie he adds little things like that... and I dont mind it from him as I know I am special to him. I guess it is more with strangers where I am not keen...

i must admit i use terms of endearment and familiarity far too much.

it isn't a conscious thing or something i stop to think about but luv, babe, sweetheart and chuck do get used probably more than they should.

i don't recall anyone taking offence to the degree where they have quipped back at me. must be cos i'm a nice person

hmmm...must admit I don't like to be refrred to as a bird....and I really don't like being called "me duck" (I don't bloody quack ).

But....I do tend to call people I know, hun or babes. Wouldn't use that sort of term with a stranger though.

I have very little time for all this 'PC' way of thinking, I am so glad that I grew up in an area, and in an age, when people just got on with life without worrying too much about simple words and the effect they may have had on the 'tender' amongst us.
