"I know it's not widely celebrated by most but as a proud Englishman I will be downing a couple of Bombardier's in celebration!

I never even knew it was.

This is how bad the country is with this. As an Englishman, the first I hear about it is through social media.

It is a shame but it's not celebrated more. I'm waiting patiently for the "did you know" negative stories about St George to come rolling in!

I know. . But it's never been highlighted as much as other celebrations. I know when the Irish celebrate, more than I do my home country. .

Unfortunately for reasons that escape me, St George's Day comes and goes pretty much unnoticed, now St Patrick's Day, that has a 2 week build up and everyone suddenly finds themselves a little Irish connection and goes a drinks themselves stupid

Happy St George's Day. Where we celebrate an Azerbaijan legend of a man killing a mythical beast all the while proudly thumping our chests taking pride in the Three African Lions on our football shirts.

Still, gotta celebrate something

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Anyone who has ever been a Brownie, Cub, Guide, or Scout will know exactly when St George's Day is, so I'm always surprised when people don't.

Anyway, how exactly are we supposed to celebrate it? Find another dragon? York has a St George's Fair and Parade every year.

Which only goes to highlight the multi culturalism of the English. Something for us all to be proud of. Do you not believe in diversity then

The ultimate irony is that the historical George wasn't even English but a Roman soldier of Greco-Roman parentage. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Sadly it's not the ultimate irony though as St Patrick is Welsh born and St Andrew was Israeli born. The only British patron saint of his own country is St David who was born, lived and died a Welshman

That i didn't know, so thanks for the info. If we are to celebrate a national patron wouldn't it be more meaningful if they were actuly born here.
