Don't you open that trap door!

No I am not talking 80s cartoons (anyone remember it). I have been in my new house nearly two years. Finally I got round to moving the work bench in the middle of the garage floor at the back of the garden. I found a trap door with stairs leading to a dark dank underground brick room about 8ft x 8tf. How intregiuging (and possibly concerning) I thought. Anyway I have deduced it's not some Fritzle like hidden den, most likely a bomb shelter from the war that the garage was built on top of. My question is how do I use the space, any suggestions?

Well I only called by because I thought you were talking 80s cartoons, and my favourite one too (yes I know I'm too young)... but a secret trap door bunker is even more intriguing!

Have you investigated? What's inside? How old is your house?

I would definitely turn it into a secret library with extra provisions and hide from the world down there. Could be great for parties too (if you want to share your secret space that is, I wouldn't!)

The kids have just left for the weekend. So this afternoon I will be getting down there and exploring. The house was built in the 1930s. The garage at the back garden probably in the last 40 yrs.

Id have someone come and make sure its structurally sound before you do anything in it!

With the size of it id just use it as a cold store, maybe make my own alcohol

your imagination

8'x8' is pretty poky... But might be a useful space to store things you don't want visitors or family members to find... Like birthday/christmas presents, the 'good' Scotch/wine, or a vintage porn collection...
