How good are iron-on seam tapes for hems on skirts and dresses? (Genuine serious question). I have two pencil skirts to shorten and don’t want a ragged hemline – so would iron on hem tape work ok?

I also have a faux leatherette skirt that needs taking in on the hips so if anyone knows a discreet seamstress near Surrey/Hampshire borders area that would be handy too but pm details for that one. Thanks in anticipation.
