Just about to start taking vitamin supplements again, after a while of not being sure if they are actually doing anything.

I eat a balanced diet, I am very health conscious. But sometimes I feel like I'm lacking a little something.

I'm very aware your body can ingest only a set amount of vits then the rest is, how shall we say, removed from the body.

I would love to know other peoples feelings/experiences on this. Is it a waste of money or are there benefits? What brand do you take?

I don't take anything and it's not something I've ever really considered. I suppose I don't feel like I have a need for anything.

It's no sommucj about evidence it's more to do with how you feel. A lot can be said for a placebo effect

Isn't this what they got proven to be? Little to no benefit (as the dosage was too small) apart from making you feel better for taking them?

I also take these studies with a pinch of salt.

Is the salt a supplement?

I have to take a good a-z vitamin now for the rest of my life, I can tell when I don't as my hair begins to fall out a lot. So yes it does benefit me, just I suppose not in a noticeable way x

Central

Generally they are a £multimillion product pissed away, without benefit to the purchaser. Vitamin D in winter may be of some help.

If your diet is reasonably balanced, including some fresh ingredients, fruit and vegetables then you're probably not in need of them.

The industry works by manipulation of fear and I don't respond well to manipulation.

I was told once by a doctor that unless you start taking them daily from the age of about 15 they will be of no benefit to you...

Unless you're old/pregnant or on a restricted diet then a multivitamin probably isn't much help.. can't hurt though.

The thing that i would recommend (and tbf, so does science) is D3 supplementation

I make sure whatever I take includes vit D. From past experience I know the troubles this can cause from lack of this vitamin.

The body is a complex thing and absorption rates vary a great deal person to person.

it's better to get them through your diet but i don't see anything wrong with taking them.

my youngest son had warts and verruccas (loads of them easily over 100 of the things, one huge clump and his knee too) and the doctor just kept saying his immune system would sort them (it never did). i put him on multi-vitamins after 8 yrs of them and they all cleared up within 2 months so i do think they support the immune system really well.

I have to take a really high dose of vitamin D amongst other things due to an absorption issue

I have found Berocca gives me an instant 'hit' but I'm not sure this is a good thing?!

I take a "good bacteria" capsule and cranberry tablets every day because my consultant told me to. Yes i have noticed they help me.

I also take an oil one to help my joints which i alternate with an oil one that's good for my heart, however i can't say i notice any difference but i live in hope.

If i havn't ate a balanced diet one day then i take a multi vit tablet.

The good bacteria tablet is from Holland and Barret and the others are from either Boots or Tesco.

There are different good bacteria capsules, they have different ingredients that help with different things so it's best to look for ones that are suitable for your needs. Some have to be kept in a fridge too but i use ones that don't need that.
