Loosely affiliated to another thread...How good are you at accepting you're wrong in here?

I've been corrected on a few occasions, which is fine, sometimes enlightening. Unless of course the message is highlighted in a condescending manner or by someone you don't take to!!

How about you? Do you like being corrected when you're wrong or are you a supreme being above it?

Id probably get a bit huffy at myself but if it was proven I was wrong id accept it.

I find it frustrating being on the other side, knowing Im 100% right and someone just wont listen!

I've no problem learning that I'm wrong about something - and also reflecting on my opinions, in the light of others' opinions and coming to a different standpoint.

We can only have limited knowledge and it's so unlikely to be always right.

In any event, we often learn best from our mistakes. I don't do slanging matches or arguments for the sake of them -there's no point. Especially with others who may be disagreeing as a game.

I get annoyed at myself because I know I sometimes state something that I haven't properly questioned in my mind first. Also if someone is patronising or belittling when correcting me I'm less likely to be gracious about it.

When I am wrong I get a little huffy with myself rather than the person who makes me realise. Unless they're being particularly cuntish in how they point it out; in which case my stubborn streak takes over and I will continue to argue despite knowing I am wrong. Luckily I am invariably right so such occasions are rare.

Usually most posts are opinions so can't actually be totally wrong if the poster feels that way.

I dislike those posts where they will argue when clearly it's just as important that everyone has a say.

If it's a statement that's wrong factually then fair enough

Must admit if ever challenged first thing I do is cogitate and check what is being alleged and if I then decide I was wrong I ignore what was said.

What does one get out of proving someone wrong? Not a lot. Maybe a short lived satisfaction and embarrassing the other party.

I don't think you can ever really and truly change someones core views, least of all by telling them they're wrong or finding fault with them.

It's not always a case of proving someone wrong in order to feel good. Debate is what changes thinking and promotes learning and understanding. Some people don't like being challenged full stop; they've yet to understand argument in it's positive sense.

I'm right about that

Yes I agree. I am always happy to be challenged - it stretches the mind sometimes, which I love. I'm pretty careful about not getting into a debate unless I am sure of my facts, but if I am wrong I am open to someone explaining how. If they have a piss-poor attitude or lack of compassion or empathy for me while they do I may not thank them for it though.

I have 2 simple rules

1] I am never wrong

2] If I am wrong refer to rule 1

Joke !!!

If it turns out I am wrong, then suck it in accept it as 'school day' Though if I am right and the other person is pigheaded well their issue. Let's be honest in the grand scheme of things its not going to kill me, Shut Up Move On

Healthy debate and open discussions are appropriate and get us all thinking. Keep an open mind when doing this and we may all learn something or re-evaluate what we think.

Being factually incorrect is different. I would accept if I was wrong but I don't accept poor attitude and bad manners when a person is 'proving' they're right. It's all in the delivery.

We're always more than happy to be corrected if we get a fact wrong. The bigger problem is the plethora of forumites who wish to say your opinions are wrong.

What does one get out of proving another wrong? Well if it's factual, then maybe they're correcting an important mistake?

Telling someone they're wrong isn't changing a core belief or finding fault, it's actually educating them.

Until yesterday I never realised that people have never believed the earth to be flat...it's a myth.

I was corrected and googled the information. I'm glad I was corrected?

It's such a complex subject and yes, sure, nothing wrong with showing someone a factual piece of information (factual isn't necessarily as simple as google!) opposing their view. Another matter when someone tells another that they're wrong to believe a core belief, or feel a certain way about something.

I'm not a flat earther, you'll be pleased to know
