Business ideas after redundancy

Had the horrible news that i was being made redundant last week.

Wondering if anyone could pm me if they started there own business as a result of being in a similar situation and how hard you found it.

Any help would be appreciated

If you are getting a redundancy package it might be worth looking into franchises. It may cost to buy in but some will offer you a decent opportunity if you are prepared to work hard.

I was made redundant last June....had a couple of good ideas at the time.....

However found myself in a new job but again was laid off 6 months later....

I have been looking at starting my own business too... I have my Business Plan and everything all written out....Problem I have is my redundancy money was well spent last year just surviving the 4 months of unemployment....

Raising cash aint easy especially if you need an initial layout...

I also looked into the Franchise route..again if you have the initial financial outlay then that could well be your first option.....

That's what I did 8 years ago and after 5 years working as a consultant for the one company I got took on with the company. I'm still able to do a little consultancy work on the side. The best thing about this way is the low set up outlay

hiya was made redundant 18months ago after being a lorry driver for 10 yrs

i bought meself a burgervan and havent looked back since.its great working for yourself and you can always have time off when you want and not be dictated to when you want a holiday.

I'd love to see more people working for themselves. Small businesses grow larger and provide jobs for others on a much more human scale than the prevalent large national and multi-national firms.

We need community businesses.

A Home Among The Woodland Creatures

A few years back I needed to rent out the spare room in my old flat.

The carpet wasn't in a very good state and I couldn't afford to pay for a new one, so I decided to hire a floor sander and go for bare varnished boards.

It cost about £60 to hire the floor sanding kit for the day and it was hard, heavy, dusty, dirty, work - but wasn't particularly difficult to get a really nice end result.

It occurred to me that people would quite likely be happy to pay up to double that to get someone to come and do it for them.

The initial outlay is pretty small as you can buy a good quality brand new heavy duty floor sanding set for around £1500 - £2000 - materials are cheap and can be bought on a job by job basis, and its the sort of business you can start as a small sideline to your main job and build it from there.
