STD checkups and warding off DEATH!! Nice topic! :)

I've decided to get regularly checked, say, every six months to a year depending on how active I'm being.

I went last week and got my results yesterday, completely clean

It seems to me, that if you go to the dentist, or eye specialist if you wear glasses, and you do this once a year, you should at the very least check out your heart, for stds, diabetes, blood pressure, cancer checks...

You know, like a top ten or so stuff that's most likely to kill you.

Much more reasonable than having perfect fucking teeth when you get whacked by bowel cancer or a heart attack!

Does anybody here have a regular checkup for stds or other stuff?

I think I should do some research into the tests that are possible, and then configure a top ten or whatever list of SMLTKU (Stuff Most Likely To Kill You)

Probably will need to go private for some of them. And then register the majority of appointments on the same day in the year so you're not wasting too much time.

I think this is real insurance, maybe you can expand your normal life expectancy this way.

What do you think? Diagnosis of hypochondria? Or do some of you make a habit of doing something like this?

I base it on the law of averages. I reckon that if I'd contracted an STD it would have manifested itself by now considering the only person I've had sex with for three years is Siren. So on that basis, I'm clean. And so is she.

As for cancer etc ... well, I've never seen anyone die of good health so when I start vomitting blood I might go get checked out but I'm not going to live in fear. Life's way too short as it is.

Never had a major illness, never stayed overnight in hossie, and only ever two stitches in a finger for a little cut. I'm fooking indestructable.

Actually going to the dentist can regularly can extend your life, a lot of underlying conditions can be indicated by the state of your teeth, repeat gum infections, halitiosis etc are warning signs.

Infections in the gums can lead to blood posioning and can in extreme cases lead to death.

Unfortunatly screening of other major organs would be extremely costly and not necessarily show disease. You get screened then spend the next year thinking your all hunky dory and find out in 11 months time you have terminal bowel cancer.

Its more important to life healthily and learn to know your body really well and seek help if their are changes to it.

So no I wouldnt and regular std testing is a good idea but you have to check what their testing, a lot of centres dont screen for herpes but tend to go for the more easily treated ones which tend to have symptoms anyway. No easy fix im afraid.
