but people are killed and murdered quite frequently in this country, but why are selective cases still making the news headlines? Why cant we ever hear of good stories not the negative that happens?

Surely its just highlighting murder and crime in this country and if that's all children are brought up hearing about on a daily basis then no wonder crime is going up..

cute and sassy - there have been a number of local cases of murder and violence in greater manchester over the last few months.

depressing. i agree with you there ARE a lot of good things happening too and we need to hear more of that.

For the sins of the world population... Bad news sells

The same world is achieving miraculous things and pure goodness and joy...

newspapers are designed to sell newspapers not to make us happy

sadly the more sensational they are, the more people are intrigued by them and therefore the greater chance of them being bought

personally i don't buy a paper on a regular basis, but if i do i try and avoid the tabloids

not because i am bothered by the sensational headlines but more because i am simply not interested in the lives of celebrities and sports stars that they seem to cram their pages with

anyway, sassy, i hope ur happy - u got me ranting now

O o O oo

News reported isn't just in newspapers, it is on radio/ television and the net too but I suppose reading trivial things would take peoples minds off the serious stuff that the OP is talking about ( obviously the newspapers even the tabloids report the serious stuff too, but the pages can be avoided if needed )

Either way, I think the OP is right as there is a lot of negative stuff reported, but sadly it is happening.

it also bugs me that programs like the BBC's Panorama and Chanel 4's Dispatches highlight the negative goings on in the world.. admitidley its good that people are highlighting the shocking things that go on, however id much rather watch a documentary once the good that goes on in the world

Same with things like Red Nose Day.. seeing the kids really ill makes me feel down and extremely sad, but i much prefer to see the smiles on their faces with what peoples money can achieve.

i picked on newspapers as i believe they are amongst the worst offenders for sensationalising stories

tv news (generally) with tone things down and have to provide a more balanced view

and for the stories reported via all sources, sorry but give me a death and suffering story any day over who ryan giggs has been shagging, which club jordan has fell out of legs and tits akimbo or (this weeks favourite) the fact that cheryl cole has had her hair cut - whoopee fkin doo !

Most news/internet or radio report on all though don't they?

But it sounds like the OP is the opposite of what you like to read about, so maybe she likes to read of who Ryan Giggs is shagging today

Nah thats what the celeb mags are for.. was just thinking about scientific breakthroughs, achievements of people. The pride of Britain awards is always a joy for me to watch, but i never hear of the great things these people do until that night.

The press 'glorify' murder over outstanding courageous achievements.

I think the media in general do that irregardless of news coverage

cops with camera's, brit cops front line, danny dyers hard men, america's toughest prisons etc etc

and u wonder why i spend so long in these forums ?

I know, I was just being cheeky xx

Yes , I know what you mean, but sadly, as I said up there...bad things seem to be happening every day, so although I think the media run with a story for way too long at times, it is bound to be in the headlines more than any nice stuff.

how do famous or powerful people (married or single) choose who they sleep with ?

surely they must know that unless they are whiter than white someone will be out to bubble them ?
