Apologising to the book of face and twits

A presenter today on the news, highlighted the issues of high profile people using social media and making profound and controversial statements.

But the issue was, that backtracking or apologising on social media perceived as admissions of guilt and future litigation.

Is social media really that important? It's not really a tangible thing, but companies and even the Police are obsessed with managing it.....when after all, you could just turn it off and not really be bothered by it?

The key difference as opposed to say a newspaper article, magazine story or interview is that the person themself writes the comment or status. It is (usually) a direct, 100% from the horse's mouth statement of their belief or inner thoughts.

That's why only an idiot would think of tweeting unrestrictedly when leading a country or similar high position!

As for switching off... you sound like someone who (like me) doesn't rely on social media and could not care less if FB suddenly disappeared overnight. However, there are plenty of people who are obsessed with it as part of their daily life. Social media and/or smartphone addiction is a very recognised thing nowadays!

It is a very recognised addiction. And sadly so many look for affirmation from online friends, blissfully unaware that real life's passing by.

In the world of culpability that we find ourselves in, I can well agree that an apology no matter how heartfelt is always going to be perceived as an admission of guilt, it therefore can be used in litigation.

We have always lived in a world where an apology equals guilt, it's just much more prevalent as people now type before they think or are advised, instead of speaking.

IMHO, all social media is a platform, when that platform is used for the good of the people then brilliant, when it destroys lives, well it's the devil incarnate, the reality is though it's not the technology that's to blame, it's the human beings using it!!! Mrs blue eyes

Absolutely, I agree wholeheartedly, but words can so easily be exploited these days?

Typing sorry can almost appear insincere these days, but if apologising simply means facing severe wrath, then where are we going?

The best form of apology is modifying behaviour? Does a witch hunt allow that?
