Sexual health for young people (under 25)

So, is everyone else aware that you can no longer get condoms from your GP unless you are aged 19 or under? And that the only place that will now supply contraception such as condoms for anyone over the age of 19 is the GUM clinic at the hospital?

Me neither, till today. All the national sexual health helpline had to say was 'yeah, the government cuts are taking a toll to our services' and that 'we kind of want you to be dealing with yourself after that age'

I can just see all those STIs and unwanted pregnancies saving the NHS millions...

Personally I think it's about time, there is no reason why adults shouldn't take care of their own sexual health. The NHS is stretched as it is without supporting adults having casual sex.

you can get 12 for £1 in poundland, they're not very good condoms though for bigger guys and taste like crap.

I do agree that adults can pay for them themselves and should take responsibility towards their own sexual health. But I know a lot of 20-24 year olds that are still very immature and impulsive and many will still take part without the correct protection and with limited education on sexual health that is a very dangerous situation.

I feel it's important to educate young people on sexual health and the options available to protect themselves. I also feel that this bit of information is not advertised correctly until you are trying to access them.

But what happens if it does break because they are only cheep? You could end up with a baby and an sti at the same time, defeating the purpose and taking more money away than from the NHS compared to give a simple comdom

i've been lucky none of them ripped, had some durex split though or slip off during vigourous fucking.

know what you mean though, whatever happened to preventative care?

Well I only have £0.22 in my account being a student, it makes me feel like I'm not allowed to explore my sexuality

All condoms are only considered to be 99.9% effective. The cheap ones still have to be approved (as far as I am aware) to be able to be sold/given away.

I've had a reputable Durex condom split before. But that's not an argument that they should be free.

Having sex is not a basic human right. If you can't afford your personal protection then don't do the risky activity.

Just another symptom of the entitled generation. I want to explore my sexuality but don't want to be accountable for it.

What if a government sponsored condom broke? Would they be liable for any sti or baby that resulted?

Thats been happening for years whether they were given to people for free or not.

Surely as adults we can take responsibility for our ow sexual health.
