My Facebook does not have my phone number on it, I have 2 people from here on WhatsApp and one had a suggestion that he may know me on Facebook. iPhones automatically link Facebook and WhatsApp contacts I'm assuming

Whichever site holds your details, others may purchase them as well as your details from other places, aggregating them. I keep a reasonable level of privacy and restrict my data that goes to sites. Fbook and others track your fuller web use even when not logged in. If I used it, I'd keep one internet browser exclusively for using it but nothing else.

Just don't add them. It's FB suggesting them, not the people themselves. As long as the profile pics don't match up you'll be ok. And lock your FB.

If FB is suggesting them to you, then it will also be suggesting you to them.
