This is of course one for the ladies

I am due to have my coil changed as it has been 5 years and I am so, so incredibly nervous! I feel sick thinking about it!

I know it has to be done but I'm shitting it!

Other than pain killers does anyone know what to expect? (I'm not sure I could handle any horror stories haha).

Thank you! Xx

It hurts a bit and then it's done. Take a pad with you.

Its no worse than when you had your first one put in. Fèels like a red hot poker going through my belly button but only lasts a few seconds then 5 years of peace

Thank you both!

I wasn't awake when I had this one fitted so I don't know.

Removal is painless and over in seconds. While its being put in it helps if you can breath deeply and concentrate on doing so. Daft thing to say I know but it will genuinely be better if you can relax. Remember you're in control, you can ask the person doing it to stop at any time.

Good luck, it'll be over before you know it.

Mine is due to be changed in October. I found it as uncomfortable as a smear, no dramas

I had one removed as it didn't agree with me, a few months back and it wasn't painful at all.

It was the first one I'd had though and I had it put in during a different procedure so I'd had local anaesthetic injections in my cervix (not fun) so didn't really feel it going in.

Good luck

Thank you so much! I will definitely be trying my best to breathe deeply and concentrate.

I had my first smear test a couple of months ago and I was extremely scared for that and I was very shocked how painless it was. x

Thank you I have a habit of overthinking things and getting myself worked up which doesn't help! X

Breathe in deeply through your nose then out through your mouth like a gentle blow. Let the person who's doing it know how nervous you are and if they're worth their salt they'll reassure you.

I had my first removed 2 years ago and a replacement inserted all at the same time. The lady who recommended breathing deeply is quite right as it distracts from whats happening. I felt crampy afterwards but feminax pain relief was a huge help. No need to stress and it will be over before you know it. Best of luck xxx

It's not a case of manning up at all. You're facing the unknown, you'll be nervous naturally.

I had mine changed recently and although it was uncomfortable it was done much quicker than I expected and wasn't too bad afterwards either.

As said before try to relax and bear in mind they know what they are doing so it wont take long and you'll be done x

Don't worry about it as that will just make you tighten up and cause some pain. I felt slight discomfort but no pain when i had my last one removed.

I'm on my third one and can honestly say I found it alot less uncomfortable than a smear test. No bother at either change and didn't bother with painkillers.

Sorry it's not been the best day for you.

Although it does feel uncomfortable now, hopefully this will ease by tomorrow. I'm usually back to normal the next day so let's hope it's the same for you.

I did it three times so it's not the worst thing I've gone through. But I do appreciate it's not the best either!

The things us girls have to put up with eh? Xx
