Just discovered bloody vine in a hedge by my front door. Apart from digging it out (and it's a rented property so would need to clear with the landlady) any suggestions for it??

It's a real pain to remove -- and digging out is really the only way. Don't compost any of it either. In an ideal world you want to dig it out and then put down a cover down to block growth by starving light for a substantial period.

It's a pain! I don't use my front door so it's taken hold and is working it's way up the drainpipe!

My mom told me that killer you put on the leaves is good for it. Just watch if you have animals and make sure it's a dry day x

Had it several times in different houses and found Weedol worked really well, took 2 or 3 goes on one occasion though but got rid of it completely every time.

Limbo

My garden never had it until about 5 years ago but it grew under the fence from next door and it's evil because even when you dig it up - and the spaghetti like roots can go down several feet - the tiniest bit left behind will soon sprout again. I dig it up whenever I see it but it's a nereverending job, because it grows so fast. Other people have recommended systemic killer - the sort you brush onto the leaves (so you don't spray plants you want to keep) - but that takes quite a while to work through the plant and into its roots, and in my experience I've found it all but useless as it continues to grow in the meantime strangling your other plants.

If anyone has any other ideas apart from continually pulling it up I'd love to hear them too ...

Mold

There are two types - Hedge and Field bind

I've got the latter and it's a bastard

Be careful about digging and pulling because leaving just a cm piece will regrow

And it stretches and cobwebs all over the place

This is from the Gardeners World website:

Organic

Dig, dig and dig some more! Every piece of root left in the soil will grow into a new plant, and the roots can venture down as far as 5m. So you need to be really thorough as you dig it out, and remove every last bit wherever possible. Use a fork to avoid breaking up the root.

Chemical

Use a total killer, such as glyphosate. This is most effective when the is flowering, although it'll still work on good leaf coverage. If the has already started to grow around other plants, untwine it, lay it on bare ground and then spray it. Avoid using the killer on a windy day and near desirable plants.

Agree the one I used has killed Ivy thou you have to be careful with any killer.

seeds can be very resilient they can lie dormant for years in undisturbed soil then pop up when it is disturbed like sheppards purse does.

Bind is one of those things I love to hate, I quite enjoy following the roots and pulling it out. I don't like using chemicals so I just keep pulling it up as I find it. Even if I got rid of it my neighbours have it in their garden and aren't into gardening so it'll come through.
