FabSwingers.com forum: I've been on fab for two years & I've just noticed something

So I know that the forums can be viewed by anyone on the internet but with blurred avatars and a * replacing the first letter of a username, and I know you can prevent your profile details being searched on google.

However, if you log out and search for fabswingers and a town or city, you get a list of every profile in that area, and you can read full usernames and full profile text, but avatars are still blurred and you have to log in to see photos and verifications.

Is this a recent change or has the site always been like that?

I know, I have. But even then, if I google mine it brings up a result with my old location on but I couldn't actually see my username on the list even when my profile wasn't hidden.

However, curiously searched my old username and found the Valentine's poem thread and saw someone had written me one and I missed it, so that's disappointing

I've know that for a long time. The swingfields incident last year expossed issues so I set security issues in place. Just searched my name and only one pops up... but more worrying is my old profile which was obviously deleted with its contents shows up with info. Interesting.

I've just googled us and yep your right, we come up in all the threads we've posted in, I also googled our old username, that comes up too although when I click on the thread it's headed with our now username, although all picks are blurred, we have clicked don't show in google searches

so if any mods catch this thread and you have a min could you check this for us, thanks lots

I think I'm going to hide my profile, while I think this one through.

Even with my profile hidden, I am still showing up in the same searches. I'm not surprised about that I'm just letting people know.

I didn't log out, I opened a new tab.

But it is still not really what I would expect even logged out (blurry pic and first letter of my name missing), as I would expect not to show up in any searches, as I had ticked that.

I just thought that because I have asked not to show up in any off site searches that I wouldn't show up at all.

I realise when something is on the Internet, it is out of our control, I just want to think this through to decide and whether to keep my profile hidden or not for the moment.

. Yeah, I totally agree lovely, I'm fairly miffed to discover this myself today, I'm like you I get that if we out something on the internet then it's not safe but we thought that not coming up in Google searches could at least help a little

Ok so I've just had a thought, I may some help to work it out, so a lot of our blocked list are people to close to home, does this mean if they log out and Google us, they can then see our profile although blurred, it's still not something we are comfortable with

i just checked further as icognito - it shows forum posting with names shortened and pics blurs as stated - click on the name to see profile and says you have to be a registered user - therefore outsiders cannot see profiles info - and blue eyes of youve blocked then the block would be inplace so i guess youre ok

I logged out, googled my username and fabswingers - my username appeared on someone's friend list that was displayed but if you clicked on my username you were just diverted to the login screen.

If you went to the mobile site, you didn't even see the friend list as it's not displayed.

That's how I found fab I was reading the forums,I still do it now have a read while logged off

I can see what I've wrote but not my profile,there are many that don't know and I can see there profile verifications etc just blurred pics and first letter missing of name

Hence I did do the privacy settings so can't be searched I think

i don't know, i don't rely on them. if i was concerned with my privacy, i'd not be trusting a websites settings. there are certain details about me that i don't want floating about in the world though so i've never put them on line,that's always seemed the common sense approach, to look after ones self. electronic security is worth diddly squat to me

it didn't used to be like that -the viewing the profile bit.

you could see nothing if the profile was 'hidden'...not the usual hidden but i think there's a setting for non-site members to not be able to see it and plenty of people have that on, i use this setting also.

Searched for fabswingers Sheffield and clicked the 300+ link and up popped profiles galore including my own

Well done you for letting us all know, I have now altered setting to stop it showing, don't mind fellow fabsters on here but open to everyone on the tinter unfettered is a bit too open, especially as all the photos could be seen not just profile screen

That is very worrying to me.

If I'm still logged in and search then I can access my own profile and see my own pictures but if I'm not logged in and search, them I can find forum posts. and my profile picture but not a lot else

I've just tested this using a different browser and yes I could find a thread I was in but when I clicked on the user name I got 'this profile is only visible to registered users' so confirm it works

I'm hidden but I could still link my username to a club review that I posted my pic was blurred and I couldn't click on any content.

I think some seem to be uncomfortable with the fact you can still be linked even in the slightlest form from a google search.

For anyone who doesn't know you can hide yourself from Google search on this page.

I've just tested this using a different browser and yes I could find a thread I was in but when I clicked on the user name I got 'this profile is only visible to registered users' so confirm it works "

I searched an old deleted profile name. It gave links to forum posts I made even though my old profile was deleted and my profile name wasn't mentioned in the thread. Bit of a joke this.
